Faircloth's Rigging Of The Swimmin Caffeine Shad???

Featured Replies

Was watching the coverage of Sabine River Elite BASS tournament on ESPN today.

Did anyone else notice how Todd Faircloth had his swimming caffeine shad rigged? Was that just weeds on top of the bullet sinker he was using, or some secret the common folk don't know about??? It kinda looked like a "bowl-type" do-hickey???

Anyone see it???

Anyone know what gives???

I saw that also, but have no clue what it was.  Hopefully someone will know what that was.

I saw that as well. Looked like some kind of shiny silver something above the bullet....very curious myself!

I don't do the facebook thing, but noticed on his website that Todd Faircloth is on facebook. Maybe one of you guys who has a facebook account can ask him? Just a thought. I was going to email him, but no contact information is given.

I think what you saw was the bullet weight and lure just reeled up to the eyelet on the tip of the rod. He had all his rods like that probably so it wouldn't get all tangled when making quick switches. Im not 100%sure sure but thats what i made of it.

I didn't see the coverage you're talking about but from your description it sounds like he was using Wigglefins ActionDiscs.  Its a little circular cup you put in front of or behind (which ever you like best) your weight and it gives your bait a crankbait type action but with a very erratic action, kind of like what the new Rapala Scatter Raps are designed to do.

Could have been this. I only saw it when they zoomed in on it really close.

It looked like black metal. I suppose it could have been a rod guide, but it sure looked like a metal cup.

I checked out the wigglefins and also the hookup baits nose job...it looked more like those...but it appeared to me to be metal. Thanks for all the replies.

I had the same question when I watched my recorded copy of the show yesterday. After going back and looking closely in slow/stop mode, I am convinced it is just reeled up to the top eyelet and is just a tungsten weight.

What type of hook was he using ? EWG? I know it was offset. Right?

That's what I saw too. Didn't see anything as he was re-rigging the plastic and talking to the camera.

I read somewhere can't remember where but he had a small weight pegged on it and that was it.

Thanks. Straight braid? Or did he use a FC leader?
