I will try and explain this as best i can. I just added a Bobs 6" action jack plate to my Nitro. I also attempted to add dual power poles with the side mounted brackets that bolt to the jackplate. I had to get the spacers that go between the jack plate and the PP brackets to clear some bolts on the plate. When all this is installed, i have no room to connect my trailer transom strap hooks to the transom eyes. The PP brackets squeeze right up against the eyes where the transom straps hook too. I really dont have room on the transom to relocate them either. Called Bobs and they said not to re-drill anywhere else for the brackets. Said that's where they put holes and they shouldnt be messed with! I am looking for any suggestions on this guys. 

Getting different powerpole brackets might be one option see if you can exchange for a pair with more set back. Option two would be drill a hole in the power pole bracket to hook your transom strap.

This is the second pair of brackets but its not the setback that is the issue. The part of the bracket that actually bolts through the plate is what sandwiches against the transom eye. All the brackets are the same thickness in that area. I was looking for an eye that was angled or had offset of its own but they are all pretty much the same.

That thought did crossed my mind. If i can fit one in there. I spoke with power pole and Bobs machine shop with not much luck.

Ya, you need different brackets.  Hate to tell you that, but that's what you need. 

 

I have the brackets that go between the jackplate and engine - not mounted on the side of the jackplate - and they work great.

Is it possible to remove the eye for the tie downs?  If you can, it may be possible to bend them away from the bracket.  You'll need to run that by someone with the "know how" to find out if it can be done.  The eye will need to be bent where it is exposed, behind the plate, not the shafts that pass through the transom..  Another possibility may be to use an eye bolt in place of one of the bolts that mounts the power poles on each side.  No other modifications needed.  Be sure to get the eye bolt in stainless steel.  I'd prefer the eye bolts on the bracket.

 

Glenn, pictures would be awesome if you could. I watched that vid on Youtube a couple times before this. I asked about that style bracket and was told that it's not really used anymore. So do the poles move up & down with the jackplate with this set-up? If so, you lose some reach with the plate all the way up don't you? Getting an eye that is bent away from the plate would be my preferred solution but i havent found anyone that sales them bent and i dont think the stock ones are long enough to bend. I have been told it may not be legal to trailer with tie downs on the jackplate. But if im not mistaking, some boat manufacturers rig them like this from the factory. 

It looks like you have a spacer between the jackplate and the PP bracket. could that be removed? If it can that should give you plenty of room.

Another option is to put a ring/carbine or a loop of strap on you existing eye and then attach your strap to it.

 

I've seen alot of boats tie down to the jackplate gamblers are that way.

I  ended up going with the binder idea and it works great. Got my power poles all done and working. These things are absolutely awesome! I took my boy out fishing yesterday for Easter and immediately saw their worth!. It was his first time actually fishing and not just joy riding. We ran up on a school of dinks outside of a weedline in open water. I was able to anchor with the poles and concentrate on just helping him through the basics without ever worrying about fighting the strong winds we had or the trolling motor. He actually got 2 half way to the boat before they got off. He didn't seem to mind so it was good enough for me. At the dock they were very useful too. Thanks for all the input guys...

When you say you went with the binder idea, do you mean?  I am having the same issue with a Talon i bought.  with the new style bracket that goes between the transom and outboard it hits the tie down U bolts.  I can't figure out how to get around it. 

I mean two of these(see pic) one on each tie down bolt. Assuming you can squeeze one in there. I got lucky and they barely fit. Get you some stainless ones with a high lb rating.
