I Love Rat'l'traps

Featured Replies

Not only does the Trap cover water but I think just about anything will eat them. I threw a Trap yesterday and had a big striper nail it and I was able to boat him. I think the official color was Diamond Dust or some variant. I have a picture of fish but can't figure out posting a picture in the forum topics.

Anyhow, the 1/2 oz Trap and some 12# Berkley big game line worked out well. Just wish I was catching black bass.

Trap, fluke, and spook are my go to when it comes to striper fishing.

Do you ever try craw colors?? do they do well?

They sure do, I caught 3 last week on a red craw Spot on the north side of the pond. The south side still had ice on it. Very low water temps.

I want to love Rat'l'traps but whenever I tie on any lipless crank, I seem to always end up getting it snagged within a couple casts after tying it on which leads me to not fish them as often as I probably should.  I have a Red Eye Shad that I bought like 2 weeks ago that I'm too skittish to throw cuz I don't want to lose it.  It really needs to see some water though.  Maybe next trip.

If you are getting snagged try working it a tad faster and yo yo it a bit more

if you are a bank fisherperson, well get yourself a little boat if you can so you can at least get over to the area of a snag and free your bait,  lip less baits can be very very productive...

SK Red Eye Shad in chili craw is one of my favorite lipless cranks. Give that one a try.

I have caught 1 fish on a lipless crankbait. For some reason they just don't produce for me so I use square bills or other cranks in their place.

My best results with RatLTraps or any lipless is along weeds, grass or brush.

I love yo-yo-ing a red eye shad. It always seem to work. I used to fish soft plastics mostly, but the RES has turned me into more of a power fisherman just because I can cover so much water and because that lure just works. I love chartreuse bait fish, citrus shad,  and chili craw colors.
