How Would You Fish This Pond

Featured Replies

Tonight I am going to fish a pretty small pond by walking the bank. The pond is Fairly shallow with a few really deep holes. There are lots of fish but absolutely no cover at all. I need some tips

Where are you located? What's the water temps? If there's no cover look for any difference, whether it's as small as a 6" ledge to a thin veggitarion patch.

Vegetation ** dumb spellcheck..

Walk around it throwing a Bomber Square-A in white or brown/chartreuse.  Or a wacky rigged Senko into the deeper holes.

I  throw a 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz chartreuse white tandem spinnerbait on ponds like that. I tend to get quite a few bites on it. I like to go to the bank where the wind is blowing to when doing this. You could also throw a carolina rig to figure out the bottom structure and cover quite a bit of water

You can never go wrong if you have a white 1/4oz. Rooster Tail, a Beetle Spin with the grub body in green or orange, and a ball head jig with a 3-4" curly tail grub in your "pond arsenal".  Those three baits alone have accounted for more than half of the bass I have caught in my lifetime in small ponds.

What's the water color? A T rigged senko, spinnerbait, and T-rigged 7-8 inch worm are good baits for pond fish. If the water is dirty I'd take the senko out of the mix though and if it's deep enough I'd add a trap to the mix.
