17 Year Cicada's Emerging On East Coast

Featured Replies

Bass fishermen along the east coast, get ready for some top water action from Mid-April to early May.

Bass love these things when they land on the water.  Arbogast actually makes a cicada colored jitterbug.  We had them emerge 2 summers ago here in Missouri and it was fun with top water fishing when they were around.  Sure was noisy though and it kind of sucks when they fly into your clothing and hair.

Ugh!  I HATE those things!  I hate all bugs!  Hopefully Ill be able to tolerate them more if I'm catching some sweet topwater fish.

NEJitterbugger, 3 on topwater in New Hampshire on April 9? Really? Can I ask what town or body of water this was on?

Can't speak for him, but two years ago I was catching topwater fish in early April at my lunchtime pond.  Water temps were in the mid 40s. Last year we were getting them in March on buzzbaits, but it was unseasonably warm.

I caught them in a small pond in Amherst... If your not familiar with the area it is within 30 min of Nashua, southern part of state... All 3 were caught on small poppers, working them slow and shallow along banks...

My only experience with cicada's was when i was living in japan. They were huge and gnarly...this should be interesting lol

17 year pfffft, they are here every year whenever it gets humid enough they bring out their toy clankers lol

I like the sound of cicadas. got good memories of chasing after dragonflies with a bug net at a park, and would always hear the cicadas up in the trees.

Its going to be INCREDIBLE!

I was guiding when they were out last here and you could take a rookie fly fisherman and have an absolute banner of a day.

I was just talking with my friend who fly fishes and I told him that he will have a killer year!

Yeah, its unreal. You dont have to worry about even getting a drag free drift because they are so active on the water. If you never fly fish another day in your life you should try it during the emergence of this because you will absolutely have fun.

I was considering leraning, I think I may want to...

I dont even get the fly rod out.

I just pick 'em up off the ground or catch one, run a little hook between the wings and give it a chuck out into the creek/river. Doesnt take long usually. LOL
