Topwater Soft Plastics - Baits Prespawn Bass Can't Refuse

Featured Replies

A previous post brought up mostly hard lure for topwater fishing - Spook, popper, buzz baits. What wasn't mentioned were the large number of soft plastic designs that are sometimes more effective than any hard bait. A few I use are:

Mighty Bug by YUM T-rigged and used as a buzzbait or twitch lure

Largest size Beaver or Ugly Otter (YUM)

Taper tailed sticks used as walking jerkbaits

Flukes and other nose-hooked twitch baits

frogs with super leg action

Floating worms

The list goes on and on but on any given day most will get wacked!

Don't forget the vibe tailed worms from bitters and zoom they are awesome buzzed on top.

Rage Shad, Toad & Menace

X2 on the menace!

Can be fished alot slower and paused longer without sinking fast. An extremely versatile lure.

Slugos rigged weightless twitching them a few inches under the water on on top.... Super productive...

C'mon man! You don't have to tell everybody!       :eyebrows:

Deadly technique.

Some (almost 30 now EEK!) years ago... we used to use weightless ribbon tail or culprit gator tail worms in the back of coves. They would KILL it! it is still one of my favorite summertime pond tactics.

True floating worms are amazing topwaters in the creeks around my house. Those mean little spotted bass just LOVE them.

I have been known to buzz an UV speed craw across the surface before as well.

Zoom UV Speed Worm and Horny Toad.

still too cold up here to try it, but I feel lik the Havoc Subwoofer will have great action as a topwater with that tail

Yes, topwater plastic work during prespawn! (30 fish yesterday on weightless rage grubs used as a finesse buzzbait)
