I have started fishing tungsten bullet weights on Carolina rigs and the weights seem to be cutting my line when fishing in rocks. I am running braid with a 14 lb mono leader and Carolina keepers. I like the feel of the tungsten but is there a way to keep it from shredding the mono? Would weights with plastic inserts work better?

Is that a typo?  Is your main line braid or mono?

My main line is braid but the weight and Carolina keeper are on a 3-4' mono leader.

Simple solution: slide the weight onto your braid, add a glass bead, and tie the braid to a good swivel. Tie your mono to the swivel and enjoy catching fish.

I don't understand your set up either... I would have the weight on the braid main line. For a fact different types of tungsten or weights will cut your line easier than others whether braid or fluoro etc. and especially at the knot. With fluoro, I'll place a rubber weight stop both above and below the weight to protect the knot from abuse. The Paycheck weight stops have a point that will extend inside the bigger weights and they also stay in position very much better as well.  Hope that helps

Are you sure it is the weights damaging your line and not the rock? That is what would be suspect to me.

This is a very bad feature of tungsten weights, particularly the cheap brands The only ones I ever used that did not cut line was Tru Tungsten and I have not found anything else that comes close. I bought up a lot of them when they were going out of business and I am looking for another brand just as good.

Beads, weight stops. Ive never had a problem weight tungsten cutting my line or breaking a line that was damaged by the weight.

But...then again i also use a swivel, never cared for the carolina keeper.

cant say I have ever had this problem. I use tru tungsten and vmc tunngsten weights.

I have some small round files, both diamond and regular.

Don't use glass beads against tungsten weights. They will shatter the bead and you will damage the line this way
