What would be the best line to use and in what pound test for fishing jerkbaits and swimbaits

there is no best line.i prefer braid.currently i use powerpro super slick in 50 lb test.i use 20 lb test on my spinning rods.

For heavy Swimbaits I would say heavy mono.  Don't want the line snapping with such a heavy lure and braid and fluoro can do that whereas mono is more stretchy and forgiving.

 

For jerkbaits, I prefer 10lb Mono.  Some guys prefer fluoro.  Different strokes for different folks

Mono for the swimbaits, braid with a fluoro leader for hard jerkbaits. Jerkbaits just dance on braid.

i've been using braid since the 1990's and have never had it snap.

i dont have a problem using braid either

 

and looks like tomorrow ill be getting a spool of the super slick for the reel of the new rod i just finished with slick guides

I respectfully, but highly disagree! Both of these presentations are almost purely visual. As such they tend to be clear water tactics. I'm not saying you can't catch them on mono but flouro will get you more bites!.. for swim bait it depends on the size... but no lower than 12, and you prob need 15lb or better. For the jerkbait no higher than 12.. and usually 8 or 10... it improves the action.

Braid for both usually. But with jerkbaits a floro or mono can give better sensitivity because with braid they cant hit it with slack in your line and you will never know. But with braid a lot fo times you will go to jerk it again and a fish would of grabbed it on the pause and get hooked.

Generally most of the folks that's really into fishing jerkbaits ... dedicated setups and all the fancy baits prefer mono in most situations at 10# test or so give or take.

The swimbait guys tend to go braid most of the time unless they are tossing smaller swimbaits. Generally I will go braid on my bigger soft body swimbaits when fishing them around cover. When I am having fun fishing the cool "looking" swimbaits... Spro's, jackalls, ABT lures, etc... I am using floro.

I like braid with 8lb flouroclear leader for jerkbaits.

I like 12# flouro on my jerkbait rig.

cant go wrong with braid or mono though.

After years of experimenting, my current favorite for jerk baits is braid with a 2' or so fluorocarbon leader.  Currently I'm using 14 lb Fireline crystal and a 10 or 14 lb fluorocarbon leader.

8#mono for the jekrbaits, I believe mono helps with better hooks ups, for me.  I use Berkeley XT it has less stretch then my stren mono and its tuff.   I have tried braid on jerkbaits I don't believe it creates better action but I certainly lost more fish on it.  Swimbaits braid, a leader in clear water.

I am surprised at the number of individuals fishing braid for jerkbaits. Seriously, 10 pound mono fishes jerkbaits very well.

For the swimbaits, use mono or braid. If you are fishing heavy cover, I'd say braid. If its fairly clean water then mono, tough mono of course. As far as poundage, it depends on the size of the bait. I'd say 10-20 max. Equivalent for braid as well.

Jerkbaits, mono for the hardbaits. If it has treblehooks, you almost always want the stretch of mono. I'd say #6-#10 for the jerkbait in general. If its the soft jerkbaits I like to use fluoro or a fluoro leader with braid.
