KVD Line Conditioner??

Featured Replies

I just bought some and as the directions stated, sprayed five sprays directly on the spool on my baitcaster, which is spooled with 12 pound original stren, and let it dry over night.

I fished yesterday and starting out, found that for some reason the casting distance on my baitcast reel was severely reduced, almost like the spool wouldn't speed up. As I kept casting throughout the day, I was able to get back most of the casting distance, but was having to throw my 3/8 ounce spinnerbait with more force.

Have any of you guys had this happen? The stuff did seem to keep my line nice and pliable, and I had only one small backlash all day.

I can't see the KVD having the effect on your casts that you mention, I've been using it for about a year & a half now.

I'd be looking at the braking system and the spool tension.

I know from personal experience that upon occasion I've forgotten that I change the settings the last time I was out. When the light comes on and I get the settings back to normal for current conditions things get much better.

Also when was the last time your reel was cleaned & lubed?

Just some random thoughts.

I had the reel cleaned and lubed a couple weeks ago and it performed great the time before. Even with the break set light and the spool tension loosened it still was doing this. Could I have gotten some of the KVD into the gears and internal parts of the reel to have it do this? It didn't do this with my two spinning reels.

I love that stuff! I use two sprays at a time. I use it before I go out in the morning. I've never sprayed it the night before?? I have heard of guys saying that.

I spray twice on my line and I can cast much further with my crankbaits

Ice, there isn't a chance that it messed up your reel.  Could your brake accidently been tightened on your way to the lake?  KVD is awesome stuff.  I use it for everything and have never had a problem with it.

Even if you somehow got the kdv inside the reel, it wouldn't cause it to malfunction. I would look at the guides, and any place that the line could, or does come in contact on the reel, you never know when a tiny picece of debris can get in there to mess things up..If that's not the case, maybe look at the line..is it old.?

I can say that it really made my line a lot more limp and I went from an average of 3 - 4 backlashes per day to just one.

You have heard of guys saying it seemed to slow their spools down or reduce casting distance at first if they apply it the night before?

ice, I get pretty liberal when I spray the KVD, I mean dripping out of the reel the night before  and haven't encountered said problem.

There's got to be a simple explanation for the problem. I'm not sayin the KVD IS NOT the problem, but anything is possible. I constantly amaze myself ;)

It was casting pretty much normal later on during the day, and the line was a lot more manageable.

GCock - spray the inside of your plano boxes and allow it to air dry. It will prevent rust from forming in the boxes

ok cool thanks!

I spray all my reels after a day of fishing. Most of the time I don't let it dry on the body of the reel.  It will displace water and it has stopped the corrosion problems I had from the brackish water.  No reduction in casting distance.  I have been using it for several years.  Good stuff.

Shortbasser

as an added note... line and lure makes another product that they market as "saltwater" line conditioner.

same stuff ... bigger bottle.... cheaper price.

just so you know.

A couple things about getting the most performance out of KVD Line & Lure:

  • Shake the bottle well before using, and while using it (if spraying multiple reels at the same time)
  • If you're applying it the first time, do it at least 24 hours before you go fishing.  It needs to soak in and do it's "magic" first. After that, you can apply a "touch up" spray while fishing without waiting for it to dry.

Hope that helps!
