Insert Popped Out Of Eye, Epoxy It Back In?

Featured Replies

The second or third guide from the tip on my St Croix premier rod popped out last year and I never got around to fixing it, I would just push it back and continued using it, I'm getting my gear ready for the season opener here and was wonder if I could use some epoxy around the outside of the insert before popping back in place. Any comments?

In a pinch, super glue will work.  You'll want to get it properly repaired as soon as possible.

I had it, and I ended up using some epoxy. I cleaned off the insert, used a tooth pick and dipped it in some epoxy and spread it around the outside of the insert and inside of the guide. Popped it in and put a little epoxy on the joint between the insert and guide. Waited 12 hours for it to cure, worked flawlessly and looks great. Won't need to replace the guide now.

How long will a guide rewrap take?

I have 15 yrs custom rod building..... :Victory:

Yes you will have to replace it sooner or later, it will pop out again.

The shock rings are pressed in while the guide frame is heated.

The frame has been tweeked just enough for the original setting to have failed, and your epoxy isn't a permanent fix...

How long will a guide rewrap take?

On a good builders bench...

To remove the old guide frame 10min.

To prepair the site for the new guide 20min.

To place and wrap the new guide 10min.

To apply finish/level to the new wrap 20min.

To cure the finish 24hrs...... :Victory:

In my shop clients waited 2days before they picked up their rods and could use them....

your fix will work in a pinch.  I've never seen a re-glued insert last more than a season or so.
