I Need Your Video Help!!!!

I need someone who is experienced in restoring corrupt or "wrongfully coded" mp4 files.  I have 3 sd(2 micro) that have most of the videos messed up.  These were from 2 different cameras on the same two fishing trips.  It is my best footage to date, and something I MUST recover at all costs!

If the sd card is corrupt you're likely sol. Can you copy and paste the exact error?

The files when pulled up look like music notes instead of mini thumb nails and all of the media players wont play them. The files are large so the data is still there.....

I had 2 sd cards on my phones get corrupted that had some of my best photos. I used free recovery software called Restoration on my pc to get everything back. Takes like 2 hours just collecting everything but worth a shot. A better one is Card Recovery but it costs $.

You can try downloading the video converter from eRightSoft and see if you can make clean files with it.  You'll need to experiment to determine the optimum settings, but it might work.

I hope you get it right. Jeff has some really great video waiting for our viewing.

try converting them to another type of video format other than mp4. or perhaps you just dont have the correct codecs to play them. do they play on the camera?

Try using the GoPro Cineform software just to convert them. See if they work.  You've already done video before correct? So it was working and suddenly stopped now. Not sure what to make of that unless you deleted codecs some how.

I've tried everything I know how....nothing is working....  they are from Go Pros, so I do not know if they play on the cameras

Tried Cineform...no luck.  I have done video, with both of my Go Pros and used all 3 of these cards.  First time with problems!

Have you been trying to view the files from the card plugged in the camera? If so, that's a big no-no.  You need to copy and paste yoru files on the pc before you start viewing them, and obviously editing.  I'm just pointing that out but you may know it already.

If you have been trying to view them off the card directly, there is a chance you burned up the card however it would most likely read NO SD on the go pro.  Are the cards functioning inside the camera still?

Lucky use, I worked in forensic data recovery for YEARS...

But first I have to ask some basic questions:

Can you play the videos ON THE CAMERA that recorded them?

Can you copy the entire files to a computer? (If yes, then the SD cards are probably OK, hardware failure would stop you dead in your tracks when copying using a regular Windows/Mac copy procedures).

If YES to first 2, then the problem is probably with your computer missing a codec to decode the files.

I just read that you don't have the cameras, or can't play on them. Hmmm, if you can pull the files off of cards, then try this: make another short video, few seconds, and try offloading and playing on their software.

Report back with results.

P.S. Would also be helpful if you could send me a sample file that you think is corrupted...

I have 1 file from the card that does work and 2 that do not uploaded to my google drive.  I can send them over to you to have a look.

If I were AJ or Dwight, I'd be looking for a new "PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE "SCROUNGA" CLUB" Just sayin' :wink2:

What video player are you using? First thing I'd recommend is trying to view them in VLC player if you haven't already. There is a chance that you just don't have the correct codecs installed on the computer you're trying to watch the videos on, and VLC will most likely play them if that's the case.

Second, back up the suspected corrupt files to a different disk before doing anything to try recovering them.

Try using photorec to recover the raw files. There is a good chance that you're SOL if the files are corrupt, however (for instance the camera was powered off unexpectedly when filming, etc.)

Hope you can recover your vids. These apps are available for Win/Mac/Linux and are trusted industry standards. Photorec can be used to recover any files deleted from SD cards and even hard drives.
