Best Flippin Hook?

Featured Replies

Alright, looking for a flippin hook. Whats everybodys opinion on the best hook for flippin, and why.

I like the trokar, but their so expensive.

I am kinda partial to an Owner 5/0 off set round bend...Holds the bait up well, goes thru the thick stuff easily, extremely high hook up %, strong and holds a point

I've used several of the straight shank flippin hooks and like them too but the Owner does the job well for me.

5/0 Tro-Kar TK-130........Worth every penny!!!! ;D

I've made the move to straight shank hooks and so far the hook up ratio seems to be better than the EWG style on thicker bodied baits like RI Beavers.  BUT,  No more Trokars.  The points roll over.  Youvella's rust like a cheap pair of needle nose pliars. I like the shrink tube collar bait holder so I'm making my own and placing them on Owner straight shank 3X flipping hooks.  I think this might be the deal.  We shall see. :)

I started  using  the pay check baits straight shank last year and love it. Its made by Gamakatsu. Its a similar hook to the one Soccplayer mentioned.

The BMF hook is a good one except for the barbs on the shank or any other hook with the shank barbs. They will tear up your fingers when the fish wiggles around while unhooking them.

I flatten those barbs and use a toothpick thru the hook eye to hold the bait.

Have been using the Trokar 4/0 flippin hook on beavers and have not lost a fish yet.
