First Time Night Fishing

Featured Replies

So tonight was my very first time going night fishing for Bass. I have gone out many times before for Channel Cats but never Bass. I must say...I'm now H00ked! We went out only for a few hours just to try it out and ended up staying longer than we wanted to do to the fact that we were catching so many fish! I dont think Ive caught as many bass all season during the day as I did tonight!

Anyone else swear by Night Fishing for bass?  :respect-059:

We have an annual night club tournament every year and it seems like every one catches them... And once and awhile ill go with some buddies . Try a black spinnerbaits. If that's not working I use a black worm on flourcent line and I use a night fishing black light, it makes flourcent line glow.

Ohhhh Good tip! Didn't even think about that. That was about the only problem last night was I couldn't see my line very well. Im a line watcher so it made it a bit difficult! I will defiantly have to look into that type of line!

I used to bass fish at night all the time and it was fun as hell.  The ponds i fish now don't allow it.  Man i miss it!

Try twitchin' a colorful 5" senko on the bottom along some banks. works great at night.

Just tried night fishing for the first time a few weeks ago. The hours I work only really leave me with time to fish at night. I gotta say, I seem to catch way more fish at night, especially in shallow water. I've been going out every night to the lake down the street and we've been doing a number on the largemouth down there!

Sometimes I swear at it. Not all lakes are created equal when it comes to night. I remember as a kid fishing the river before it was polluted and on a black jitterbug mid summer it was nothing to catch 100 smallmouth in a night, it was almost every cast. Couple weeks ago we had a night tournament on an overfished lake. Started at midnight and I never had a bite till 4am. Other guys in the club hammered them but theyve been competitive bass fishing for 20+ years and know a few honey holes most dont.

On the right body of water its hard to beat.

yes definitely, the summer is harsh during the day so i always go at night. I myself am fairly new to night fishing and I cant even compare summer days to summer nights anymore.  The only annoying thing to me sometimes is lack of brush visibility.

Been night fishing a few time for catfish, and not really a big fan because of how bit up I get. Mosquitos are terrible around these parts.

My favorite two baits for fishing at night are a buzzbait and a spinnerbait. They let you cover a lot of water pretty fast and they also attract the bigger bite. I usually fish around thick weeds and laydowns. They have both produced for me for years. It is pretty fun to see them strike the buzzbait. Try it youll like it .

I've been night fishing for bass most of my life.   When I was a teenager my family had a cabin on a lake.  I'd head out after dinner and not come back until 1 or 2 am. 30 some years later I get home from work on summer evenings and hit the local lake about 7ish and fish until well after dark - sometimes past midnight if it's a Friday and I don't have to work the next day.   Come to think of it, in the summer if I were to total up the hours I probably fish more after dark than during daylight.

I stayed fishing till around 11pm one night.I could hear the bass jumping out of the

water that sounded like humans doing body slams in the water. I knew there were bigger

bass there when my PB was 10lbs.caught at 4;30/5 am. She was 2 feet from shore. I got

away from the people fishing there in the evenings because of the crowds and pressure.I

find fishing at 3:30am much quieter.

Bigbill I have to agree with ya on that one. It sure is alot more peaceful at the wee early mornings. Brian, I too have done more night fishing this year than during the day. Specially last month in Pa we had a long hot streak of weather that brought water temps up close to 90!

As far as the bugs go. The first few times I got bit to hell even with bug spray. I found that dabbing some Vicks vapor rub on random parts of my body and clothes works wonders! Seen it on FB and gave it a try!

Yes, but it depends on what BOW your fishing. If it's a shallow clear water lake then you cant go wrong! As doug hannon said himself night time is wonderful because it covers up some of the mistakes us anglers unintentionally make. If your allowed to fish at night give it a go. Night fishing can produce some of the best bass fishing of your life.
