I want to try making soft plastic baits but I don't want to spend money on expensive molds. does anyone know of a way to make 2 sided molds for soft plastics?

As with any type of lure making, when I hear phrases like , "I want to save money", or "I don't want to spend a lot", I would have to say then don't even bother starting because what will happen is you will spend the majority of your time trying to find ways to cut corners and end up in frustration with a poor quality lure. Tackle making is expensive but it is also very rewarding and just flat out fun but trying to do more with less normally has bad results and while you will find was to improvise and save money, your initial investment is going to be sizable like a microwave as you aren't going to use the one you use for food items, plastisol, hardener, softener, not to mention colors, glitters and so on and so forth. If you want to make some soft plastics by all means have at it but if you want to do it on the cheap, well good luck because it is hard when you are trying to go that route, it isn't impossible but don't expect a ton of quality either.

Lots of ways to make cheap 2 piece molds, but they will not be the quality of a good aluminum mold. Videos on youtube will show you how. 

What bait(s) are you wishink to make? Most baits can be made with a single open pour mold. Fish wont care if on side is flat.

 

Making a two piece mold can be challenging.

I like Screwjaw67 find that to get quality product the cheapo molds don't cut it.  I have spent a lot of money

on POP, and Resin only to disappointment.  I am now getting only aluminum molds, and the cost is way more

than just buying plastics from Walmart.  The only thing you get is satisfaction from building a unique plastic

in the color you want that others cannot get.  When I am done I will have a thousand dollars in materials and

molds.  Unfortunately, I am hooked now.

If you buy used molds or get them on sale, you get nearly all your money back if/when you resell it.

youtube a video about a guying pouring his own senkos. he used fiberglass resin for his mold and it's 2 sided. i use the same set up for pouring craws and worms on occasion. all together cost me less than 30$. i just melt down lots of my old plastics and pour them as a mold i made.

I have been looking at the Spikeit Pourasol does anyone have any current experience with it? I have read old threads but was curious if anyone was still using it. I going to be making tubes and worms heavy salt. Thanks!

Yes, good stuff. Get one formula stiffer than you would use with another brand. So if you like soft, get medium pourasol.

thanks Kevin. Have you tried any of the other brands and if so what made you pick the pourasol? How soft is the soft pourasol? Trying to get super close to the senkos if I can...thanks!

I have tried almost all of them. MF, LC, BBCP, chemonics, calhoun, and spike-it. 

 

My favorites are the chemonics and pourasol. I choose the pourasol purely due to cost. 

 

If you are making sticks I would suggest the soft. You MIGHT not have to add any softener with it depending on how soft you like it and how much salt you use. 

Ok great. Going to give it a whirl. I have a few POP molds I have made now just have to order the plastic.

hey possibly a dumb question.  I have just been using my older soft plastics and remelting them.  If I get the pourasol, what do you guys use for the colors?  I see they have the dyes.  What size dye do you get?  

1 oz is like a standard eyedrop container and would last pretty long for darker colors.

I suggest 2oz, they will last you a long time with the exception of chartreuse and any fluorescent colors. If you are dying scrap plastics black you will need a lot of black as well.
