Hello there fellow fishermen! 

 

This is my first post on bassresource so I figured I should introduce myself a little bit. I am probably among the youngest members on this site. I am 18 and I am hungry for knowledge to say the least. Just last summer I took our cheapo family fishing pole and decided to go fishing in my neighborhood pond. I tied on a crappy little beetle spin without the slightest clue on how to use it. Within only a couple casts, I felt my bait just stop. My rod tip bent and I knew a fish ate my bait. I reeled the beast in and landed my very first bass. From that moment on, I was hooked. I went fishing almost every day that summer and I loved fishing more and more each time.  

 

My parents loved that I found a hobby such as fishing and not sitting on my butt all day playing video games. Because of this, they support all of my efforts to become a better fisherman. My dad used to fish as a kid, but not with the enthusiasm that I have. We rented a jon boat that at a local fishing spot called bob's fishing hole on the Northwest River in Southern Virginia. We spent a whole day on the water. 0 fish caught. I was so ticked. How could I spend a whole day on the water and not catch a single f****** fish. I used to catch multiple fish in my pond, rarely did I walk away empty handed. It had to have been a bad day I thought. So a couple weeks later, we went out again. Same result. I was angry that I did not catch any fish but I became very intrigued as to why the fishing was so different in the pond and the larger body of water. I researched furiously and learned all about bass and their feeding habits during the different times of the year. 

 

Time has passed, my equipment has been upgraded, and my knowledge has broadened. But like one of my favorite anglers, Dave Mercer, said, "The great thing about the sport of fishing is that you never stop learning."

 

We moved into a different neighborhood since last summer and I now live on a golf course. I fish a lot of the ponds and have landed some very sizable fish. I just have some questions for you more experienced anglers. As a family vacation, we are going to Lake Anna for a week in August. We are renting a tahoe and some kayaks. I will be spending a great deal of time fishing there! We do not have a fish finder or any electronics that will aid us with fishing. I have been looking a topo map of lake anna and I have scoped out a couple good looking spots (deep spots, ledges, main points). I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some information on fishing in Lake Anna.

The lake house is in Contrary Creek and that is a topo map of the area close to our location. Please let me know your thoughts on where to fish. (We will be there at the beginning of August so the fish will most likely be deep)
