I am going to pick up a pack of Megastrike Shake2 shakey head jigs. If I only buy one weight, which should I buy? Also thinking about going with the green pumpkin color jig head. Should I just pick up the black head or the green head?

I would choose the lightest head you are able to feel... consider your equipment and the depth you will be fishing. I use 3/16oz & 1/4oz black.

i use 1/8 and 3/16 the majority of the time. 1/4 if the wind is bad but i don't ever throw over 1/4oz. 3/16 would be the most versatile of the weights.

I almost always use a 1/8 shaky head no matter what brand I have tied on. As for the Megastrikes, I bought a few brown ones and they've been good.

I usually try to match colors, but it's too hard to keep all of them in my tackle boxes. My go to is a black unless I can match colors.

I tend to base jig weight on the depth of water I'm fishing and in anything over 10ft. it's a 1/4 or heavier even with a short thin worm.  I'm not concerned with a slow fall rate, but it's ability to stay on the bottom in one place while being shook and my ability to feel it being inhaled by Ms. finicky.

On spinning gear with 8 lb fluorocarbon, I commonly use 1/4 oz and occasionally 5/16.  I know this is considered a little heavy, but my priority is getting to the bottom ASAP.  I own 3/16 and 1/8 ounce shakey heads, but I very seldom use them.

 

Frequently I will fish shakey head type baits on baitcasting gear, primarily due to bottom cover.  For this application I generally choose 14 lb  fluorocarbon line and 3/8 ounce jig heads.  If it is windy, go with a 5/8 ounce or half ounce head.  Technique is the same.  Shake it some, drag it some, try different  stuff until you find what works.  Then hope you remember what you did.

1/4-3/16 some time I use the mag shaky and a ed2 shake head but that is on my T-rig setup

I use 1/8 almost all of the time. Sometimes 3/16 and 1/16 too but not often

I picked up a pack of black 3/16 mega strike 2 shakey heads along with some zoom trick worms. Looking forward to giving these things a try!

3/16 shake e2 with a watermelon seed trick worm, tail dipped in chart JJ's magic.  Pretty hard to beat.....ask anyone on this years road trip!!!!

And I also picked up some chartreuse jj's magic!!

I fish a shaky head quite a bit and use a 1/4 oz from the bank down to 24 feet if fishing down a slope, deeper than that or deep ledge/hump fishing I will move to a 3/8 oz.  I throw the 1/4 oz on 10 pound BPS floro line on a baitcaster, ususally with a trick worm, and do pretty well with this set up.  I really like the plain ball head jigs with the flat eyes better than the football or flat bottom heads.

 

Paint color is about making the fisherman feel better, I have caught just as many fish on unpainted heads as I have with painted heads it makes no difference to the fish.  Strike King offers 3 painted or 4 unpainted heads for the same price.............

 

As several posters said its not about the slow fall but about holding it in place and being able to feel the bottom.  Drag it until you feel rocks and then give it a little shake. Dragging like a Carolina rig with a added shake during the pause has worked better than shaking in place for me this year.

I love shaky headin, I believe the jig head colors is to catch fisherman unless your maybe in hardcore clear water
