Hook size and type for wacky rigging ?

Featured Replies

When wacky rigging plastic worms(4"-6") what size and type of hook do you use?

Are there any plastics (other than worms) that work well wacky style? Thanks.

Thanks guys. I was reading about the O-ring trick to use when wacky rigging, and had 2 questions. 1) Just how tight should the O-ring be on the worm? 2) At Home Depot I saw O-rings that were 1/16" thick, and others were thicker,  3/32" thick. Which should I use? Thanks.

No. 1 Owner Wacky/Drop Shot hook.  I've never had a problem using them.  As far as the o-rings go, you may want to try heat shrink tubing out.  I've found it's far more effective.

Plenty of info in this thread:

Thanks, I'll check out the tubing at Home Depot.

BUT, I thought the whole point of "using less worms" is because the hook doesn't go thru the worm(weakening it) when using the O-ring?

I've been using the Gamakatsu wide gap weedless finesse hook, size 2/0, with great success. I use 2 o-rings on a senko and criss-cross them and slip the hook thru where they cross so it is at 90 degrees to the bait. These things hook and hold and being weedless is a big plus for me.

Whether I use O-rings or tubing, how tight should they be on the worm? And do I buy the thinner or thicker O-ring? One was 1/16" and one was 3/32" thick. Thanks.

I usually use 1/16" ones, but either would work. My hooks are Gamakatsu Octopus hooks 1/0.
