Need Help Picking Out Some Northstar Jigs

Recommended Posts

Guys I have never fished a jig at all. I really want to learn and get some fish on a one. I read you all talking all the time about the Northstar Jigs and how much you guys like them. However, I need help on what to purchase... I figured id go with 1/2oz jigs but I am not sure which style jig to go with or what colors.... I would like a jig that is versitile and could be used in a number of different situations. Any suggestions???

The original swim jig or the flip and swim jig are both great jigs. 5/16oz for the original and 3/8 or 1/2 for the flip and swim.

The Knockout and Black series are also outstanding jigs. You cant go wrong with any of them.

Especially with the 4th of July sale going on.

For versatitlity I would go with either an original or flip and swim jig to start with.

As Mr swim jig said the Flip and Swim will be the most versatile. 3/8 or 1/2oz is what I'd get for weight. I've done everything from burning this jig on top, flippin it into heavy cover, to slow rolling it in 20ft of water.

Some of my better colors are New Gill, alimony, frogger, flippin blue, alabama craw, insanity, and salsa. I've caught them on many more colors, but I stock up on these usually.

Also the knockouts and blacks series are great for any bottom contact situations. The alien head is great in that it always keeps your trailer upright in a defense craw position.

X2

I use Frogger, Brown Craw, Insanity, Black n Blue and Alimony for Black Series. That pretty much has the entire color spectrum covered for me. Greens Browns blues and blacks all mixed.

For the flip n swims I use Salsa, New Gill, Mistake and a custom crappie color. That pretty much has it covered color wise for me.

I use 1/2oz only for all my jigs.

Thanks guys! Like I said I have never fished a jig but I want to give it a try for sure. I know the Northstar Jigs look sick especially the new black series! Tell me this what is the difference in the two jig heads in the black series: the football head and I guess the "alien" head??

Tallen316,

the football head is designed to excel in rocky/hard bottoms. If you know you are going to be fishing a lot of rock, gravel, and sand with little to no weeds then grab some football heads. If you fish a little bit of everything - rock, grass, cattails, pencil reeds, brush, etc you will want the alien head. The alien head also skips well.

Well I pulled the trigger and bought 3 of the flip and swim and 3 of the black series jigs all in 1/2oz. I can't wait to get them in the water and give them a try! Thanks guys for the recommendations!!!
