Core 50 Mg7 Question

Recommended Posts

I have been reading a lot about this reels quality and ability for use with light lines and finnese presentations. How do you think it would perform with a heavier quality floro say 12# to 14# and used for Texas rigging?  Would be paired with a Dobyns Champion MH. Have used a Core 100, but I am really taken by the 50 Mg's weight and palmability. Line capasity is not an issue for my situation.

Also have read good things on this forum about the Chronarch in the 50 size. But will a 50 size reel do the job for what I am asking it to do?

I have 12lb flouro on mine right now.  Works like a charm!  Paired wiht a 6'8'' Cumara mh/f it is my pond hoping setup.  Gets the general all around rod duty!

It'll work just fine, I had 50lb and 70lb Daiwa samurai braid on them and it was ok :)

I also use the 50 size reels for nearly everything. Exeptions are frogging and deep cranking where I prefer diffent gear ratios. Line size goes from 10/12# flouro to 50/65# braid and anything from weightless Flukes to spinnerbaiting.

Got mine on my fluke setup with a champion 683c and 15lb fluro. That thing can bomb flukes and senkos a mile...so light. Great reel

Buy a curado E50, change out the gears to a 7.1:1 if you like

I have one like that and the other unchanged on a casting dropshot setup.

If I can flip with 65# braid on it I dont see no reason you would be able to do the same with the reel your talking about.

to me they are the same reels except for a few minor things.

I have both the chronarch 50e and the core 50mg. Both are good reels for for 8-15# line. I have fished many different techniques on them and haven't had any complaints. Really like mine for jigs, Texas rigs, and weightless plastics.

Both reels fish close though the core is a touch smoother and slightly better casting plus the reel is one of the lightest reels on the market.

As far as the core being worth the price that is up to the buyer. Personally I wanted one of the lightest reels I could pair with one of the lightest rods to make an 8.5 ounce combo.

Unless you are stuck on the 50 size frame, the chronarch CI4 will be coming out soon. Will be priced between the two with a paint scheme that looks alot like the core.
