i was looking at new rods for flipping and pitching and im interested in the Abu Garcia Veritas, but im not sure if i want the micro guide model or not, ive heard both positive and negative about them, what do yall think?

I have two Falcon Cara Eakins Finesse Jig rods, one has the micro guides the other has standard guides. I prefer the micro guides for lighter jigs 1/4 and 5/16 oz and the heavier jigs work well on either. I don't notice any real difference in sensitivity but I do like the micro guide model as it seems to be a little more balanced rod.

I think micro guides show their advantage more with baits that are meant to be cast long distance, not sure if there is much difference when pitching and flipping baits other than a little lighter on the tip.

Either way micro guides are not going to ruin your fishing, so give them a try.

I've been a fan of micro guides, but as bad as the cottonwood was this year, I found one downside.

 

I like the micro guides because of the weight reduction and balance, and the seemingly better sensitivity I get from this rod vs my old one. But, they will clog up with junk if you're fishing a lot of heavy vegetation or if you have a problem with cottonwood like my area seems to have.

Cottonwood, filimentous algae and ice are the main situations where I avoid "micro" guides. Outside of that I use the smallest guide that will pass the line and connections. A #4 micro will work fine. My favorite way to build jigging rods is spiral wrapped micros. This keeps the tip as light as possible and makes for a well balanced sensitive rod.

I have a 6'9" and the 7' MH rods with the micro guides that I use to fish soft plastics.  I can pitch them or cast them without any problems.  I don't fish when it is cold enough to ice up the guides so I can't help with that.
