For my birthday my kids got me a new higher speed baitcaster (7.1 ) and a new rod with Pac Bay microguides.  I spooled it up with Suffix 832 braid (65 lb test) on Saturday night.  Used it for the first time on Sunday and I noticed that the line made more noise on a retrieve coming through the guides than I am used to hearing.  I usually use my spinning rods which are spooled with Trilene mono in 12lb and 14 lb.  Did I do something wrong or is this normal?

 

Yes, it's normal, though Sufix 832 is one of the quieter braids out there. 

Yes, but some are worse than others.  However, I have only tried 5 different braids, so can't say if there is one out there that is as quite as mono.  Doubt it unless it is Tuf Line Supercast because of braid's design.  Supercast has an external coating that may help it run quieter.  Was out the other day using 20# Supercast, but afraid I never paid any attention to how it sounded.

most of the noise is the braid on the level wind.people say recoil guides make the most noise but I find them to make the least.

the rod wouldnt happen to be a ST Croix rage would it?????? if not the Pac bay micros on mine whistle like train when i use braid with it good luck tight lines Andrew

You will learn to love the sound of braid tightening up on a hard hookset. I love that sound. *CREAK*! *Squeal squeal*.

I recently switched from mono to braid. Notice the braid casts a lot further but it is noisier

Braid does make noise, but I'm not bothered by it as I understand what's going on.  Sometimes holding the rod at a slightly different angle will curtail the noise.  I'm on my 3 rd (and last) spool of Tuf Line Supercast, it is very quite.  I'm using the 12# on my heavy bass rod and used 20# on my barracuda outfit.
