So, at this point in my fishing "career", I have a lot of knowledge, but obviously there is always something new to learn... 

 

Im always trying to learn new things and when something stumps me I seek out the answer until I find it. Anyway, today I took my friend out fishing... I took him to a spot where I always catch fish around 3-4 lbs... He had never been fishing before. I taught him how to use a plastic worm and away we went. I will list his gear and my gear so you know what we were using, 

 

His Gear: 8lb stren original green line, silver size 4/O hook, 7.5inch watermelon color culprit plastic worm. 

 

My Gear: 8lb Berkley Trilene 100% fluorocarbon line, silver size 4/O hook (same as my friend) 7.5 inch grape and black culprit worm. 

 

Anyway, I ended up catching about 5 small fish... just bigger than my palm. 

He caught 2 fish, and they were both a good 3lbs. 

 

The spot that we were at, I never catch anything smaller than 2lbs... so why did I only catch smallies tonight? 

It was my first time fishing with the fluorocarbon line.. 

 

Im not sure if my gear is turning the bigger fish away or something.. what do you think it could be? or just coincidence?

He had the right color and you didn't. 

Your worm would have fallen faster than his due to fluorocarbons sink rate....That also would have affected the action of the worm....Just sayin.

That's fishing. 

That's why the call it fishing and not catching! Seriously, I agree that the Fluorocarbon line might have effected the action but more than likely, it was the color difference. But as far as not catching the bigger fish, they could be keyed on another type of forage. The bigger fish may be sluggish due to water temp etc. etc. etc.
