Fall Fishing Strategy/lures?

Featured Replies

If you were a kid with a canoe and no electronics (hint hint), what would your fall fishing strategy be and what lures would use?

If you're fishing a larger lake I'd go to the back creeks...for the most part I'd fish shallow and along the shoreline. Throwing crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and swimbaits. Looking for a reaction strike.

thats just me though

I've had good luck With spinnerbaits lately.. As long as I have my trailer hook

I'd flip or crank around docks mostly, that's what I'm doing this time of year.

Flukes/double flukes, jerk baits, lipless crankbaits, a-rig, and top water baits all do really well in the fall. I'd stick with your summer pattern until the first frost and then start fishing creek channels. Bass will be scattered so I would use your favorite search bait to find the fish. Im just hoping we'll have a long fall this year and good luck.

I don't mean to derail the topic, but how does fall fishing compare to spring? I'm guessing they're not quite as aggressive in the fall, but this is the first year I've really gotten into it.

In the spring they are feeding before the spawn and in the fall their feeding for winter. Most people would agree that it's the two best times of the year to fish just because of how aggressive the fish are and not to mention its great weather to be out on the lake.

Same lures, same strategy, different locations ;)

I throw a KVD 1.5 gizzard shad a lot in fall,i start at main lake points close to creek channels and work back to end of coves. Great time of year to be on water when everyone has hunting on minds and weather is cool. Gonna be a while till fall gets here. Right now we been using a shakey head with zoom junebug red trick worm and drop shot with 4"worm in this heat.

The last 2 fall seasons I've had good luck with square bill Bombers on rip rap banks.  They hit it in 2-3' of water.

Jigs back in the shallows.

I love spinnerbaits in fall and early spring. My favorite bait to fish. Last fall I could barely start my retrieve before it got smoked like a freight train.

Fall fishing is the same as springtime fishing. I go with cranks, spinnerbaits, swimbaits like the money minnow. You might want to try uprising your lures too when it's slow.

The bass may try to conserve energy as it gets colder and may want a meal instead of a snack.

I fished till November even in the light snow they were hitting the money minnow. I use the dying minnow presentation flutter.

I hate this spell check on my kindle fire HD. It changes my words. I never threw swimsuits before.
