Its Been My Most Productive Year In Terms Of Size Because Of One Reason...

Jigs

I finally took the time to really learn how to fish them, and know I don't feel right without one tied on. I can think of another lure that produces more bigger bass for me then some kind of Jig

I've also been learning jigs. Unfortunately I havnt caught anything exceptional on them yet but I'm happy that I've been catching fish with them without tremendous difficulty.

Most of my nicer bass have been caught on jigs also.  I think the main reason is that most people do not use jigs where I fish.  I see a lot of cranks, and plastics being used, but not jigs.

If I've had anything to do with this success, I will apologize before hand cause your gonna be broke soon! Lol they are addictive. When your hot with them, it's like legal crack!

I have to learn to use a jig. I'm in a pretty weedy lake up here in MN. What do you guys recommend I start with? I'll be fishing them both shallow and deep.

If it's really thick veg then you would probably be better off just using creatures and a punch skirt.

Strike King Hack attack jigs are nearly snagless and come through weeds like a dream, you should start there.

1/2 oz arky goes a long way when fishing weeds. 9/10 I don't need to reach for a heavier trig

North Star Custom Baits makes their original swim jig and comes through the grass really well. I prefer the Flip N Swim, which is the best of both worlds. It works very well in all my grassy areas.

If you're fishing a weedy lake the North Star and the Hack Attack jigs are both good suggestions. But I've been usi9ng the Oldham's jig since they were on the market and it's still my favorite grass jig -- and the price is hard to beat also.

x2 i started fishing jigs heavy at the start of the year and had a few jigs but now i have 3 plano boxes full lol i can't seem to put them down now and they have def. made a difference for me this year

I have always texas rigged my craw dads.  I have started putting them on jig trailers and have yet to catch one on it.  I am going to continue to stick with jigs and move away from my Texas Rigging.  Hopefully I will have better results once the temps drop down.

I'll have to agree with everyone else, jigs catch nice quality bass most of the time. I've had the majority of my bigger fish come on frogs but the jig is definitely a close second. Jig fishing to me is like a lot of other techniques, fantastic when they want'em but not so great when they don't. For some reason though I never get tired of throwing a frog, did it for 3 hours yesterday without a single bite, but I was still happy. Oddly enough my biggest bass came on a shakeyhead, go figure.
