$50 Spinning Reel Recommendation

Featured Replies

I just bought a Shimano Compre worm and jig rod that is 7'2" and medium heavy with a fast tip. I would now like to buy a decent spinning reel to go with it. I am wanting to spend about $50, I have been watching the flea market for a while but they never show up there. It's a baitcaster world. At any rate, if I could get some feedback in case I see a nice labor day sale that would be great. I have read other threads and it seems the President is highly recommended. Any other thoughts? I stuck my old reel on it this weekend and found it to be tip heavy. Granted my old reel is a BPS Stamped that I bought as a combo for $8 to see if I would like spinning gear so I can't complain, but I would like better balance. Thanks!

Edit: I should add I am only fishing freshwater and using it for senkos, ikas, and the like.

Pflueger president is about 60 but with coupon from DSG or upcoming sale can be had around 50

Pflueger Trion

Lews Speed spin

orra s  (50 on ebay)

(various shimanos) someone will probably chime in

There's a few threads that say under $100 but they have some reels in your budget

You can def shoot higher than your budget using ebay and other sites to bring it into your budget

shimano sedona is nice but $60 if you dont mind spending an extra $10...i like mine and use for salt and fresh all the time

Hey.......I've purchased 4 spinning reels off the classifieds.  They do come up.  Keep looking every day.

The abu garcia cardinal is a nice reel for 40$, however IMO the orra s is worth the extra money.

Abu cardinal is a good choice or the pflueger president for a few more bucks.

Pflueger President is a good reel for a great price. However unless you go with a very very heavy reel you likely won't get rid of the tip heavy feeling. You may consider altering your grip so your holding more if the foregrip.

Check out tackle warehouse they've got their Labor Day sale going on so a lot of gear is 15 % off right now. Some brands like Daiwa and Shimano are excluded.

I'd look around for the last gen shimano Sahara, might find one in your price range.

I have found the Sahara on sale a couple places. I would be looking at the 2500, right?

Pflueger is a great reel. I own 3 different models, each model I purchase gets a little more expensive. ;) But all are quality built and look good too well worth the price.

Shimano Sanora

X2 either one is an excellent choice for the money, they would be my best suggestion in your price range, well worth it, price wise nothing else compares!!  :thumbsup1:

I got a Cardinal for Father's Day and it broke in less than 2 months.  The handle (where you hold onto it) just fell off when I was using it.  There is no screw or bolt to hold it in place or anything.  However, their Customer Service was really good and I didn't have to pay a dime to get it fixed.

If you have the patience, keep looking in the flee market and watch ebay.  You will get a lot better reel for your money at that price point.

I can also say good things about the Pflueger President.

I'll second the Sedona, and personally, I've no problems shopping on ebay, providing the listers have at least a 99.7% rating...

That said, Pflueger makes a fine, well-respected reel. Daiwa as well. If you upped your limit, I'd say jump on a Lexa 2000SH. I love mine. Extremely smooth. I really like mine, even compared to my two Shimano Stradics. Great reels.

I have a President 6925. It's a very nice reel. My girlfriend is in love with her Daiwa Legalis. It feels a lot smoother than my President but it is also kind of heavy.

With each upward increment in price reels progressively get more refined and lighter.  In the $50 range most name brands are going to perform on the same par, the reality is it just doesn't make all that much difference.

The only way to have near perfect balance is to use the same lure each and every time, the feel is going to change with a different lure type and weight.  By moving your hand up on the foregrip the fulcrum is changed and often times improves the feel, a lot easier to set the hook too.

I had a Shimano Sedona that I loved, and never had any problems with it.  When it died I got a President and so far that has been a good reel also.

I love my pfleuger president 6925 as well.

I bought a Shimano Sedona 2500 three years ago for my drop shot setup and its been a great reel. My buddy has 3 Pflueger President reels all good. Both are well made but the Pflueger has twice as many bearings
