Shimano Reel

Featured Replies

Hello Folks,

Was at a estate sale over the weekend & picked up a Shimano Sedona 2000FA reel & Invincible X-cell 2, 6’6” graphite “lite action” rod for $10.

They look like they’ve never been used.

Not sure if they were originally a pair or not & not finding anything on line about the 2000FA except on ebay.

There has to be something different about the ebay 2000FA reels because they are going for $130 to $150.

Is the ebay price the actual going rate for the 2000FA & is this a good rod/reel for a beginner, fishing Nockamixon in Bucks county PA?

If those ebay prices are right, then lucky me!

Have to take the wife to the mall next Sat. Was planning on hanging out @ Dicks while she does her thing.

What kind of line should I get for the Sedona?

Thanks!

Tight Lines!   :fishing1:

Hey PhatBass, can't tell you too much about the reel or rod as far as value since its an older version of the Sedona. I'm a Bucks county native and have spent a lot of time bass fishing on Nockamixon. That lightweight rod unfortunately isn't going to serve you too well on that lake. That lake grows a lot of massive thick weed beds and mats and to effectively fish largemouth there you will need some heavier gear to get down in that grass and haul bass out. There are a few chunk rock points that aren't weedy that can be fished and a few areas of sparser cover. It's a beautiful lake and fun to spend time on, but can be a challenging lake to fish so don't get frustrated if you're not catching a ton.

You made a good deal there. As far as line goes there are probably as many opinions as there are members here, lol. I use some backing and 15-20 lb. braid. Another good choice would be 6lb fluoro or co-poly. My third choice would a soft 8lb mono like Trilene XL

Don't know anything about the rod but the reel used to sell for 39.99 so if it's in good condition the reel alone was a good deal. I'd probably put some 8lb mono on it and you'll be good to go for most anything you'd want to fish on that combo.
