Swim Jig Trailer?

Featured Replies

I know the general rule is to try to match your trailer to your jig. But the lake I fish has fairly stained water, and I've had the most success with darker color lures. Have any of you mixed and matched different color trailers?

Today I was gonna get one of those booyah swim jigs with the triangle head. I was gonna try either the char/ black or black/ blue jig with a lighter color trailer. Maybe a white(ish) color, or maybe even a char color for the char/black jig.

I'm gonna either buy a pack of havoc subwoofer, or a pack of beat shad.

What are your thoughts on this fellas? I was thinking I'd get the high vis of the darker color jig plus the flash of the lighter trailer. Any experiences with this bait combo?

Also I've heard a lot of folks like using the subwoofer with success, but what about the beat shad?

Btw, money is tight so it's either or. I already have some lighter color swim jigs

I like the grass pigs although I haven't used the two you mentioned.

EDIT: Sorry forgot about the beat shad, I have used them but they're not anything exceptional.

subwoofers are fantastic swim jig trailers and one of my favorites. i hated the beat shad. if possible, try and find some true swim jigs /w the "bullet" shape head. the booyah swim jigs don't come through grass of weeds very effectively in comparison to a traditional swim jig. if i'm using a black/blue or black/purple swim jig, i don't change the color of the trailer. i'm using those dark colors for a reason. if using a shad colored or white, i'm using a pearl white trailer to match or a mustard yellow or dirty orange trailer for contrast. for a bluegill colored skirt /w something like green pumpkin/orange/blue i'm a big believer in using the strike king color "kvd magic" and taking a yellow spike it marker and running a chart stripe down the side of the trailer and one stripe down the tail.(swimming caffeine shad) it isn't a bright chartreuse that appears out of the water but looks amazing in the water.

You know, your absolutely right about the bullet head. I thought about the dame thing today, and ended up buying strike kings swim jig instead. I bought the black/blue and a blue gill. I already have one of the shad colored ones

Both Siebert Outdoors and NorthStar build GREAT swim jigs.

For trailers I like the Rage Menace and Shellcracker. Another

excellent option is the back half of a GYCB Swimming Senko.

Yes to both of these RW!  I haven't gotten my order in yet with Shellcrackers, but the Menace is a proven producer!

I've also gone from a variety of brands in my jig box to just using the hand tied jigs from Siebert and Northstar, they really do hold up better and they really instill CONFIDENCE <-Huge IMO
