Man has it been slow lately with the hot weather, but in the last couple of weeks with it cooling down some I've been dying to get out and catch some fish.  I went to visit my Dad and Brother this weekend in Western Carolina and did some fishing on Saturday morning.  Conditions were better than ideal, on the water at 6AM and couldn't have asked for a better day.  Water got up to right at 71 degrees, clouds stayed out all day and the wind was just blowing barely enough to cover up your lure hitting the water.  I didn't catch the fish in quantities, but definitely found the quality fish. 

I've been on the biggest run of 1-2 lbers ever, with no fish above about 3.5.  However, on Saturday I absolutely demolished the previous record with not one but TWO big bass!  I stayed on the topwater most of the morning since it was overcast (and that's the most fun fishing known to man) and it paid off BIG TIME!  About 9AM I was working a baby bass Pop-R and from nowhere SLAM.....  after a good 4-5 min fight, a sleigh ride on the kayak and finally having to use the net I end up landing a beautiful 5LB6OZ hog!!  Absolute heart attack when I finally got it in the yak!  Once I calmed down (like 1+ hour later) I creeped around the bank a little further to the sweetest looking jumble of laydowns and threw out the Jackall Mikey Jr swimbait, cranked the reel one turn and another BIG HIT!  Again a good 2-3 min fight and the net landed me a nice 4LB9OZ bass. 

Big thanks to all here on the forums, Glenn for helping me learn as much as I can and keep stepping up my game!  Happy to say that I have a new PB of 5LB6OZ thanks to the help of the BassResource community!

Funny thing is that one with the serious gut weighed less than the other one that is more of a football!

That's my main man there.  He's the ultimate fishing buddy, never complains and always wants to go!  I recently put him a little piece of indoor/outdoor carpet on the front of the kayak and he loves it, he can lay down and hang out and not slip and slide around.  Funny thing is he does not care one bit about the fish, never has!

I have gotten into kayak fishing pretty heavily in the last 6 months and have already topped my previous largemouth and redfish PB from it. I then gave that one to the girlfriend and got a Native Ultimate 14.5 so now I need to top them again! It never ends! It's a good thing that fishing from the kayak is so much cheaper. Nothing but gas in the truck and launch fees... And a couple thousand dollars in rods and tackle! Haha.

once he gets settled in (10-15 mins) he's in for the long haul man, he lays down and only gets up when he's ready to hit the bank for a bathroom break....

 

and you're right, fishing in general is just addicting but kayak fishing even more so....  i transport mine on a car, but if i had me a small truck i'd almost leave the thing in there everyday and hit every puddle i could find....
