Fluke Fishing

Featured Replies

I've never fished flukes before but I'm thinking of picking some up tomorrow while renewing my fishing license.  I'm probably going to use the smaller ones (2.5") since that seems like it would imitate the size of the bait fish around here.

What you guys' favorite way to rig them? Favorite colors?

Anything you want to add would be great!

I would fish a Fluke that small on a drop shot.  You could also try rigging it weightless, nose hooked on a small drop shot/wacky rig hook.  I like albino and natural baitfish colors.

Yea man bassresource is the way to go. I don't fish flukes much but watched their videos and it helped me a lot

Get the super fluke. I like the ones with salt. I usually tx rig weightless with a 3-4/0 hook.Cast out and let sink on a semi-slack line. Lift up your rod tip after a few seconds, and if nothing is on your line, work it back to you with a jerk jerk pause technique.

I like to dead stick them around wood or outside of cover.  If I fishing over weeds I'll let it sit on top of the weeds for a few seconds and twitch it.  Natural colors in clear water, and white or pink in murky water works around here.

The important thing is to make sure you rig the super fluke straight, I like to use a 4/0 offset round bend hook.  I first thread the hook through the nose all the way down to where the flaps are, rotate the hook and just push the hook not all the way through the back of the fluke.  I like to cast it out there weightless, let it sink and then reel it back in fast enough to make a bunch of noise on the surface then let it sit.  Next I do the twitch, pause, reel method back to shore.  Favorite color so far has been watermelson seed.

I seem to catch the bigger ones dead sticking.

Dead sticking is just allowing the bait to rest on the bottom with no movement right?

I if you have any overhangs skip it under there and let it sink when it hits the bottom or on the drop twitch it and watch your kind

Weightless Zoom super fluke with 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG hook(4/0 is too heavy and sinks too fast) fished erratically with very short pause here and there.
