How do you keep track of your lures, list?

Featured Replies

I recently started buying some new lures but I always get confused about which ones I already have and when I get to the store I wind up buying one I've already got.  Any suggestions on how to keep a list?

My plastics are on a peg board. Takes a glance to see what needs purchasing. Crankbaits are seperated by depth in Plano boxes. Just a glance and you know.

I keep notes while on the water, if i see i'm low on an item it goes on the list.

Exceptions are the lucky Craft lures. They stay together reguardless of depth or type. I know without looking what is in each box.

Hmm, don't laugh.  I have everything in a Microsoft spread sheet that lists the manufacture, the lure, the size and the color etc...

I then transfer it to my phone and when I goto the store I have the list on my phone so I know what I have and don't have and what I want.

Later, ;)

I dont keep track of what I have, but if i see something I like or need to restock I just put a note on my phone or my hand  ;)

Peg board over my work table out in the garage. 95% of it's plastics. I store all my hard baits, jigs, spinnerbaits, etc in plano boxes. If I buy another lure that I have a duplicate of, I'll hang it on the board until it's time to replace the older one.  I've been buying most of my stuff online recently.  I'll just take the laptop out into the garage and glance at the wall to check inventory when I'm burning up my credit card.

I use to just keep buying which is why I have way too much stuff. In the past couple months I have been slowly going through it all. Now I have 66 quart tubs of baits I need to get rid of.

I simply just don't buy everything I see. I fish a fairly limited amount of baits. I use forums to try to hone in on top baits so I don't need to be the test dummy spending a ton of money. There are many anglers who think they will find a magic lure, but I try to keep it simple. I know what I need to restock, because I know what I have been fishing lately and what I have been losing.

I agree with RobbieZ.  I don't use more than 10 different items, less for saltwater, my inventory is in my head and I know what I need at all times.
