What Fishing Line For My One Baitcaster??

Featured Replies

Hey guys I have a 7' St Croix Triumph Medium Heavy Rod and a Daiwa Aird baitcasting reel. I have a rod and spinning reel for dropshotting only and I use Fluorocarbon on that of course.

Anyways, as you can see my baitcaster is my setup for everything other than dropshotting (topwater, jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, texas rig, carolina rig, the list goes on....). Currently I have been using 12 lb monofilament, but was wondering if there is something better for all around use? Maybe like a hybrid line?

I would have multiple baitcasters and rods for different types of use, but I am a college student and can't do that.

12# mono is my standard for MH rods.

If the mono is working well for you, keep using it.  It's a good multi purpose line.

12lb mono is fine.

My preference would be 20-30lb braid, add a flouro leader for clear water...

Alright thanks guys, I guess I will stick with this mono then!

If I were you, my only concern would be if you had no rods with  high# braid tied on and wanted to walk a frog.  Braid makes it much easier - but if you have no interest in frogging, then stick with what you're using.

A good premium mono casts good and strong knot strength, works for crankbaits and spinnerbaits. A good hybrid like FluoroClear or Yo-Zuri also casts good, decent knot strength and works a better for bottom lures like jigs or worms. Hybrids are good all around line and might worth giving a try the next few months.

12 yo-zuri. it has a 19lb or something like that breaking strength, dosnt strech as much as mono, and is only like $13

More and more people have told me this...I might just try straight braid and see how it works for everything...or a hybrid line...

i use mono for everything, i havent made the jump to trying different lines yet..
