Wacky rigged crankbait?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has tried wacky rigging a crankbait?

I don't know how wacky rigging a crankbait is even possible.

I think the only thing you can wacky rig is a soft plastic bait (I think).

that is not possible unless somehow you had an eyelet coming out of the top of the crank.  even then the crank would just do circle kinda like when you get your line caught on one of the hooks.

I don't know really how you would.  What do you mean by wacky rigging?

Interesting train of thought.

Rapala makes icefishing jigs, minnowtype with a tie-on middle of the top. If I could only figure out how to post a pic. from my pics--- ::)

That's more of a spoon or blade bait though. We use them for smallies in late fall / early winter for fishing deep structure. I don't think a true crankbait would run right, as others have said. I've c-rigged cranks with some success, but thats about it.

It's actually a small minnow,w/plastic bill in front. It helps to make it go side to side, instead of just up and down. It also keeps fisherman amused when sitting on a block of ice waiting for spring! :)

You are not tieing your line to the center hook are???????

Remove the front treble from a small Rapala Original Minnow, and connect to the line tie.  Tie to the now empty loop.  Cast, twitch, catch all species of fish.  Something we used to do when rock bass were on beds in spring.  You'd catch the occasional out of season smallie off beds as well.

No it has a single hook in the back, treble hook up front, an eye in the center top. I can't figure a way to load a pic. from my pic.

This is what he's talking about.  You southerners have no idea what these are, LOL.  They are for ice fishing.  You drop them down the hole, and slowly jig them.  They swim in a radius much larger than the 4" hole in the ice.  Ice fishing version of a "search bait."  And yes, they work when the water is soft, too.

Not that vertical jigging is my kinda favorite way to fish but a man gotta do what he gotta do.  :(
