Hey all, Im really excited for ice fishing this year. Just got back from the store I purchased a 32'' medium St. Croix Premier ice rod, light pflueger president reel, some 8lb seaguar invisx and a couple new jigging raps. Opinions on this setup for pike / walleye? This will be my first ever experience with fluorocarbon line, we will see what happens, so far I am happy I can still use my clinch knot i use for braid and mono. So, anyone else stoked for ice fishing this year? Feel free to talk / post photos about your setups or even some catches you've made.

Good middle of the road for pike/eyes. Fluoro as a main line might give you fits but maybe not. I love to ice fish!

I just purchased some spinning reels for my ice rods. I have some tip ups with a home made ice sled. I have a close by water shed were I can pull my sled out there with my tractor. If this works out I may build a heated shed with a stove to cook on next. It looks like fun. I did it twice already and caught nothing. My co-workers said it's about eating and bonding with your buddies. But I'm there to fish. Since the reels won't be used that much I got the cheap reels from eBay. The rods I went the average name brand ice rods. I think using the braided line made for ice fishing is the key too.

I am going to upgrade my ice rods this year. I have been using an 18" UL HT polar light, and a Frabil 24" UL with a spring bobber. I find myself using the 24" rod most of the time, so I am going to upgrade to a Fenwick Elite Tech, or Abu Veritas UL ice rod. And this year I am going to use braid with mono leaders, I have been running straight 2lb Trilene micro ice, but the local shop has 4lb power pro, so I am going to give it a try.

fenwick does make a great ice rod, they look so thin at first but they are really strong

Every time I think about ice fishing I think of the movie grumpy old men. I was thinking of making a few of those duck rods too with no reels. They would look neat crossed and hanging on the wall.
