i bought 2 of these babies earlier in the spring hoping to get a big one deep but havent been able to fish them much since theres alot of weeds up here in northern il. anyone from up north have any luck with them? i threw them on a 7'10 kvd tour cranking rod and a revo winch. im thinking getting my sexy shad one autographed by kvd at the chicagoland fishing expo this jan.

A cranking rod that can throw in the range of 2oz, 1.96oz is the weight of the 10xd.

That's the biggest rod quantum makes though. Picked it up on sale at walmart for $100. Does seem a little soft for the 10xd though.

Loomis Back Bounce 964 should be about perfect for that thing.

it does work yes- it can wear you out  a bit over the course of a day.  I also threw on a winch, different rod though.  I also think there are better ways to fish deep structure than this crankbait though. Swimbaits and big spoons.

I posted a thread about this 10xd a few weeks ago and no one responded... after going to the local tackle shop and actually holding one and looking at it, I agree there is MUCH better ways to fish 25ft down. That sucker seems like it would wear me out! It'll be neat to see if anyone wins any tournaments with one! Hahaha - "Well I caught em' all on one of them strike king 10xd's designed to run 25feet down. I tried everything else, but they'd only hit that 10xd! Now available at your local dick's sporting goods!"

I threw it  on a BPS 7'6" MH Crankin' Stick with no problem even though is rated up to 1-1/2 ozs. That said most of the fish I caught were northern Pike.

We'll be fishing the 10xd in a couple of days down on Lake Baccarac in Mexico.

 

There are some real brutes there who we're hoping will chew these baits up good.

Its more wear on the body casting it than cranking it. Sorry Martin, I didn't see your thread.

Good choice, you should check out the st croix eyecon trolling 8' 2 piece. It acts like a true cranking rod. It really doesn't have a rating but works perfectly.

Thanks -  That looks like it would work well.  I chose that travel rod as much for the action as for the convenience of the 3 small sections for air travel.  Also, I use it to throw a Hudd 68.

They did because there wasn't rods on the market when they came out.

It runs great with a moderate rod that can handle the weight. Cranking it isn't a challenge and feels like a 6XD's slightly bigger brother.

Most people don't have a moderate rod that can handle that much weight though.  Instead of buying a new rod, some people try to make due with what they have.  Many times that's a swimbait rod, an A-rig rod or even a flipping stick.  

I throw it on my Veritas A rig rod for now. I intend to get a mag deep cranker this summer. 

Dobyns has the 806CB "10xd rod" now.

I think a few other manufactures have "10xd" rods now too......if you want a new rod that is.

Well well I just so happen to be a Dobyn's man. How will the 806 handle other deep divers like the 6xd? 

IDK, I have the 805rmcb for 6xd work.

If a rod throws the 10XD well it probably wont throw anything else all that well just because of the mechanics involved in heaving that giant plug.

It's true. You could probably throw some musky inline spinners like a the musky killers and the big spinnerbaits for targeting bass. I know some musky guys end up catching bass on accident with those and it pees them off.

I toss 10xd's on my 805CBRM paired with a BB1 pro and this setup handles them great, no fatigue throughout the day.

I have too......I dont get the flipping stick to throw a 10xd.

 

While I havent thrown it much I have thrown it some. I would like to see the 806cb as it would be better, in comparison, as the 805 is perfect for a 6xd, I can only assume an 806 would be perfect for the 10xd.
