Boat Crash

Featured Replies

Anyone see the video of the crash at the lake? If I can figure how to post it here I will. I'm surprised there ain't one of these a week. Hard to say how to fix the problem. The flag wouldn't help unless you're standing up because while sitting and driving you wouldn't see a 10 foot flag until you were right on it. You cant be expected to idle through because it would take an hour to reach the main lake. Just glad they're ok.

I think this is it

The only sure thing to do is to avoid those blind trails for any long stretches. You could be very safe going slow with a flag but if the person coming from the other direction isn't as safe, then it's to no avail. It's like passing on a blind curve or hill. It's only smart if it works. For most of the fishing most of us do, even tournaments, the risk outweighs the reward IMO

What was the other guy suppose to do? Not turn and pierce the other guys nose with the bow

It would be nice to put a NSFW tag on it, for the cursing

Lucky no one was killed.

I stopped running the Pig trail on Kissimmee because of a near miss.  I glad this turned out to only be fiberglass damage.

WOW! I've run that same trail a hundred times and every time i'm looking ahead for that same reason. i always go as slow as possible so i can react quickly if need be. i find myself only running that trail now if it is super snotty on the lake. that was heavy for sure. was this the same crash that involved brandon mcmillan?

Wow those trails looks scary, suprised that doesn't happen more often with how narrow they are.

I'm not sure if it's the same crash...  I thought in the Mcmillian crash, one of the boats was stationary but i could be wrong.  I hate running them trails.  You can barely see where to turn let alone an oncoming boat.

Were you at Lox on Sunday?

That is a classic display of Negligent Operating on the part of Both vessel Operators.

In general terms Negligent and Reckless Operation of a Vessel is operating a vessel in disregard of careful and prudent operation, or in disregard of careful and prudent rates of speed that are no greater than is reasonable and proper under the conditions existing at the point of operation, taking into account the amount and character of traffic, size of the lake or body of water, freedom from obstruction to view ahead, effects of vessel wake, and so as not to unduly or unreasonably endanger life, limb, property or other rights of any person entitled to the use of such waters.

In other places it's defined as Operating at speeds that are not reasonable and prudent based on boating traffic, weather conditions, visibility, or other potential hazards. If no limits are posted, you should operate a vessel so that it does not endanger others and so that it can be stopped safely.

As mentioned, this is common practice. There is really only one way to travel these areas safely & legally and that's to slow down.  Clearly a tall order during a tournament where time is money.

However, the alterative could be serious bodily injury, and or Jail Time.

Be Safe & Smart out there.

For you non flash player guys...

Years ago I collided with a boat at a blind turn, luckley we were both taking it fairly easy, it was both of our faults he suffered more damage, Storm Vs Nitro. My boat went over his top and ripped the entire front cap off. I had a little scratch.

I learned how fast a boat comes up on you while taking a turn, I had seats that have a raised sectioin for that reason, they allow me to kind of sit higher and operate the boat, but I crawl through those trails.

Iv always been surprised that there isnt more wrecks on that lake.
