Anyone Had The Vmc Sureset Hooks Bend Out?

I had on a DT6 in Ikes Demon color today. Water was around 4-5 feet deep and I was basically boucing it off the bottom. I had some decent luke on a few small Hybrids, but ended up drawing the attention of a 3-4 pound cat fish. He took a couple short runs, and as I was lowering the net, he jerked and was gone. As I went to retie, I noticed that the rear sureset hook was basically flat as a nail.

I've been using these on jerkbaits and cranks for about a year now and have never had one flatten out like that. Anyone else had this issue?

I've thrown xraps with the suresets for years and never had any issues with them bending/straightening out. I always thought they were great hooks. Hopefully someone who throws them more than me will chime in and give some insight bud.

I usually change them out as I just have this idea that they are there to snag things they shouldn't. if you're dead set on using them i wouldn't be too concerned with bending them out /w bass. a popular guide up north swears by them using them for tip ups for giant pike. catfish in general have bent out more hooks on me than any other fish. they are a mean fighting fish /w a tough mouth.

Thanks. I had never hand any trouble at all untill today. Crank was brand new too. I love them for my topwaters too. They are great for short strikes.

I thought the same when I originally got them, but the way the DT series rides the bottom, I have never had one fail me. Your probably right, Its been a long time since I've caught a cat. I was using brand, but I had my cranking rod and a light drag.

I've used them a lot on xraps, I never change a hook until I need to.  I recently bought 15 Krocodile spoons, all came with sure set hooks, they have not bent when catching some of my inshore fish.  If I had a problem with lines breaking, knots not holding, or hooks bending (which I do not), I'd be looking at too tight a drag.  I can't think of any other reason a 4lb fish would do that to a hook unless it was defective.

That was my thought. My drag was set pretty light plus the rod was a graphite cranking rod so there really wasnt any serious ripping or pulling.

We have guys here that fish for moonfish (pretty small but fight hard) using crappie jigs 10 for buck and half that hook an 8 lb snook once in a while and don't bend, nothing is a cheaply made as those jigs.  Only hooks I have bent are when removing with my pliers from a fishes mouth.
