What is Dead Sticking? I have heard people talking about Dead Sticking. Just never new what they were refering to.

Letting a bait sit there, doing nothing.

Floating baits - keep the slack out of your line and let the wind/waves work your bait.

Sinking baits - let 'em sit.

yep thats pretty much all there is to it, i deadstick plastics mostly, i used the yum doozee(a long slender tube) the 6 inch version, worked very well, i caught bass from 8 in to 18 in. just letting it sit there, up to eh maybe 1 min max- i cant stand it after that ( even though some wait much much longer) , i give it just a little twitch or two about 20-30 secs into it and wait another 20-30...then reel in and cast again.

*added scent will improve your strike AND catch ratio

I refer to it as soaking, but it means what the other guys mentioned, just letting that bait lay there

Deadsticking: cast out your lure, let it sit there till you're dead, have your offspring come twitch the bait, repeat as necessary..

works, big time. There have been many fish in the 4-6# range caught out of the back of my boat by someone who was (nearly asleep and barely hanging on to the rod) dead sticking a worm.

I have a hard time doing it, I would rather be slinging a frog making 10 casts a minute.

I just can't do it, I can just picture my bait sitting in a vast waste land void of any life or hidden deep in a crevace between two rocks. Gives me the hoolies.

X3. It drives me nuts. but it works. I'd much rather be slingin' a crank or a spinnerbait, but if deadstickin' is what the bass want, I'll make the sacrifice

Its a good way to fish in the winter.

Cast out your bait, put your hand in your pocket to keep it warm. When the hand holding the rod gets cold, twitch the bait and switch hands.

Been using this technique lately with great results. Using an old style watermelon regular Fluke 4" on a 1/8 oz. shakey head and deadsticking it on the bottom in a very clear environment. Results have been awesome for both smallies and largies.  Hard to believe they eat this thing, but they do. The strike is hard to tell usually, but the bass do not spit this thing out.

Sorry, I had to throw this out there again but this should be proof enough to the people that like to throw their used plastics overboard. Just because a bait doesn't have a hook in it doesn't mean a bass or another fish won't eat them.  :

BadBass, it drives me nuts and I just have a lot of trouble Dead Sticking since I am a Type A personality.

My old friend could sit and smoke a cigarette before twitching the bait.

Me, on the other hand, would go nuts as he did this and I would throw a crankbait or a spinnerbait as he just sat there, staring into the never land, waiting for a hit.

He caught some bass using this winter method but I have never had any luck with it. I guess because I just cannot sit there for 5 or 6 minutes and do nothing.

Give it a try and you may like the technique.

Thanks to all that posted on this forum, You guys are amazing. I have decided to try and get out every chance I get this winter unless the water Ices over. I will definetly try this technique if my nerves can stand it. Sam I'm like you if the bait aint moving it just don't seem right. I have had some success with throwing a spinner bait and dragging it along the bottom, but to let a bait sit for 5 or 6 minutes uhhhh I think I can. I no I can if it produces fish. Again thanks to all that responded, I'll let you no how it turns out.
