The GF and I went out today for the first time in a while. Went through a canal in boca since the time change messed up a farther trip planned and it wasn't very productive, so we went to our local margate canal system where it was a slow bite till I figured out to BBUUUUURRRRRNNNN. Fast!!! esp the flukes. ripping and jerking we were getting em one after another. Seen a few bedding bass still to and got to ****** a small male off one. nothing big but we got a lot in the 2-3lbs range.

FSTR, good to see and hear from you again buddy. It's been a while.

Looked on Google Earth to look for new places to fish and/or secret ponds in the forest. I found a canal in the forest and their are trails that lead up to it. I also found more trails that lead up to

  • All this fishing talk made me step out for a bit, and get the line wet at the park. LOL.... Wind was blowing from the East at 15-20 cloudy skies. I took my Lews MG on 30lb braid and 3 ft of 15lb yozur

  • Just got back from a couple of hours of fishing at canal close to my house. Bite was slow, but somehow convinced these guys to bite.      Even an Exotic (Mayan Cichlid) decided to hit.

I wasn't with him when he caught the bass, I was there for the carp though. He was fishing for catfish with his little boys and wife and threw on a crank and caught that beast 2 feet off shore. His old PB was 13 and some change and he said this one was definitely in the 14+ range. He said he's got an ancient spring scale that he has in his kids tackle box and that thing maxes out at 14, when he put the fish on it bottomed the scale out (I was like what kind of scale only goes to 14lb must be old as hell and definitely not made by a company that is located where big fish reside lol). Too bad for him because if he had a proper scale that beast would have qualified him for the Florida Trophy Catch Program in the Hall of Fame Club (13lb+ fish).

That was on Saturday and he took me there on Sunday and when he hooked the carp he thought he had that bass' mother lol until he got a look at the carp close to shore. Didn't weigh the carp we should have because I have my scale, not no ancient 14lb max junk mine goes to 50 lol, after he let it go I was like man we should have weighed that I'm curious to see how big it was.

Heading back out there next weekend trying to get that bass again.

He text me that pic and my jaw dropped, beast of a fish.

Yea man me too I was carrying my half of the boat when I got that pic lol, me and dsidle were shocked. Me and bass czar went with Dave on Sunday to the scene of the crime but we didn't have any luck at that spot caught a few at other ponds though.

Are you just rubbing it in bc I asked about this a week ago and found out I can't get on it lol monster fish especially in a 8 day period!

They have vaca house rentals. You can rent a house for the week. I would poke around a little more and see, inquire around about camping. i go in april, I doubt there will be fish like this spawning let alone the campsite area but will keep you posted. You been following the thread? The fish are typically deeeep like 20-25 feet. I was talking to my cub scouts and couple of their parents grew up here and stayed/been numerous times. It is also a wildlife management preserve and like the thread mentions a couple ponds can be accessed from the opposite side of the WM area.

I went out this morning and caught 14. Nothing like what central has been catching but still fun. Found a small creek I fished down for 3 hours. Got thirsty and hot or I would of kept going. Caught the red rat snake trying to get some sun. Just glad I didn't find any other kind of snake out.

Dang bud you had a good day. See you got to exploring. What were you catching em on?

Baby brush hog in watermelon seed with a light weight. It was too pretty not to go today, I'm thinking about going back out later closer to home.

Just got back from my trip to Jupiter.  I met up with WPerry at a tackle shop and chatted over iced tea.  It's too bad I didn't get a chance to get out with you Bill.

I took a guide trip over to Stick Marsh.  Wow what an amazing fishery!  Nailed a bunch of quality fish.  I need to go back there!

I also did some exploring on my own while in Jupiter.  Took a ride over to Hungrylands in West Jupiter.  Fishing was tough for me.  I was mainly fishing large Swimbaits.  After a while of some misses and curious but not eating fish, my patience was finally rewarded. I didn't weigh her but she was a monster by my NJ standards.  You can speculate yourselves.  Just for reference, I got her on a 22nd Century Nezumma Rat (Lure body is double jointed and 3oz. 5.5" body and another 4-5" tail - Rod in background is a Dobyns 795ML w/ a Lexa 300)

I gotta say you guys in Florida have amazing waters.  I'm jealous.  There is potential for a quality fish anywhere. Hope to be back soon.  Thanks to all for your tips!

Bonus pic of a Talapia I got on a 6" S waver.  Definitely a "I don't understand?" moment for me.

Nice fish LTrain glad u had a good trip here in fl. How do you like the lexa 300 it is one on my list for a new inshore reel next winter? Always thinking ahead ;) your the first person I seen that has one.

Nice fish guys, I definitely wanna try throwing some brush hogs and see how they do in these ponds over here. My brother and I caught a few today with him having the biggest one of about 5 pounds at least. It was a nice chunky healthy fish. He caught it on Stanley Ribbit top toad. I will attach video in a few days when it is edited.

The Lexa 300 is a solid reel for the money.  I have not used it on salt but I know a number of people that do on the west coast for Calico bass. It handles big LM bass with ease and the stock drag is great.  I upgraded to some Boca ceramic bearings and its casts very well.

I would guess it would be a great reel for snook and the like. I would definitely recommend it.  Its hard to beat for its price point IMO.  It also comes in a Power handle configuration if you need that option.

Im very jealous of you frog luck you've been having.  We cant get a consistent bite up here.  I missed one last weekend night fishing and other than that its been more than a month since ive caught anything on the frog......its coming soon though.  Maybe end of april/may then it will be game on.

Thanks for the info, appreciate it. Sounds like a stout reel.
