Buzz Baits In Winter

Featured Replies

Who throws buzz baits in the cold months. Winter or early spring. If so, where, as far a depth and things go.

Only time I'll throw in winter months is when there is a warm front that came In an warmed the water up a little, other than that jerkbait SLOW or some kind of dropshot or Carolina rig in deep water

Never really tried one during winter

I've not given one a try. I know personally the buzzbait bite seems to shut off when the water starts getting cold. I'm guessing it has something to do with the bass's slowed cold-water metabolism and just simply not wanting to expend enough energy to attack what is one of the faster moving baits. For this reason, most use a very very slow presentation on soft plastics and jigs.

But hey, give it a try. Bass don't post on here very often so we don't really know if they follow our rules :)

I've used a buzzbait with success in the winter here in south Lousiana for years. When there has been a warming trend over several days and the water temp reaches at least 55 degrees, I'll use a black buzzbait with a black blade around laydowns, cypress trees, and seawalls on clear days with little or no wind. I don't catch a lot of fish, but the average size goes way up.
