I'm 71, and if I had to lug my angling gear several miles thru the woods to reach a waterbody, that's exactly what I'd do.

It's not nuts at all, I'm just a naturalist at heart.

Do you pinpoint your fishing holes using a topo map, then use GPS to reach your destination?

I see you are in the Miami area, Have you ever tried the L-28 tieback out by the jetport? itr is about a 6 mile ride on the atv and some very good fishing out there. The only other way to get there is an airboat or a swamp buggy.

hi ROLO.im pretty familiar with many/most of the woods/lakes/canals/trails here in south florida, ever since i was a lil boy exploreing the forest/fishing/camping/atving has been my passion 2 say the least..nomraly i scout new locations on goggle maps & try 2 get as much info on that area as i can online,,then ill go out there in my truck 2 explore it even more,2see the parking situation etc..then if all looks good ill go out there full fishing, camping atving gear & spend all day or more, when i find a good spot in the woods i always mark it with my gps,1 tool that has been invaluable 4 me in scouting out new grounds 2fish is ( A DUAL SPORT MOTORCYCLE) i have its a street legal dirt bike.ill pack my backpack with my fishin gear n lunch and head into the woods,no truck, trailer or atv or parking hassles, its like riding a needle thru the woods haha.....LARRYC7856.I got good tip about the L28 canal& i keep hearing there alot of fish in that canal but u need to go all the way 2 the end of it,there an enterence to that canal at the 40mile bend on tamiami trail heading west, but theres a security gate there,i think i can go around it in my dual sport motorcycle, that dirt raod is in good shape n goes stright to the end of the canal.option #2 is a dirt road a few miles west of the enterence i talked about above, but this road can me a mess with mud/water...i will certainly be exploring this canal in the near future 2the fullest..this is what i get high on hahhaa,

I don't think you are allowed to use the Levy from 40 mile bend and if you are talking about the 11 mile oil well road that is not allowed either unless things have changed, it has been about 10 years since I went in there on an ATV. Also check with the park service to see if you need an off road permit for your ATV you will be in the Big Cypress National Preserve. I always went in from the Jetport road. It is a nice ride thru the cypress on an ATV. The canal L-28 that comes out to the trail is not the canal you want to fish, That canal ends about 6 miles from the road. Where that canal ends all you have to do is cross the levy and the L-28 tieback canal begins. That is the canal you want to fish in. the second canal runs about another 6 to 8 miles. The G.P.S. coordinates  for the crossover is 25.55.08 / -80.50.11. I would suggest having a buddy go with you because if it is not hunting season you will most likely be the only person out there between the jetport and the canal however there will be airboats in the canal.

i do appriciate all the info pal..i was recently down around krome ave. and sw 8st on my motorcycle n came across this old blk.man fishing the 1st.levy/dam just west bound of krome ave. on ur right hand side going west..i pulled up next 2 him just being curious 2 see if he gotten anything, when i asked him how was the fishing, he open a cooler next 2 him and i was like wow!.he had id say 8 to 10 good sized fat bass in there,he also told me he had only been there a lil over 2hrs.he was using a reg.rod about 10lb line a bobber and live worms,he had about 3 or 4ft of line under the bobber n he would cast to the middle of the canal n wait.he had 6rods all in the water together,as i spoke 2 him,he pulled in another good sized bass..my question is,does this canal really produce this good fishing or was he just 1 lucky old man??????....cuse on the weekends that levy gets packed with fishermen n i dont see any 1 pulling in fish like that.
