Ok so I am old school on lines.... But it's time for me to spool up braid on my 50 or my 51 however iam still not convinced I can use this reel as my heavy flipping reel... But she's going to get the chance. What do you believe is a realistic strength for this reel as a heavy cover reel? What about general duty strength eg. Bottom contact t-rigs, jigs I can't deny it's exceptional feel and me having a few pinched nerves in right arm and back... I could see it helping me recover some lost feel. Also drag settings, don't even want to break a rod over braid so what pound should I set it to slip ? Or full lock down? So anybody ? Shoot me your opinion . As always thank you for your knowledge !

Ive got 50lb braid on two curado 50e's. They function wonderfully for pitchin/flippin.

Id set your drags to match rod ratings if youre worried about your rods. Not that I think you need to worry.

Sufix 832 30lb or 40lb is great. I would go with 30lb since it is more castable and you will be able to fit more line on.

For heavy flippin I use 50 or 65 lb. Power pro is good, as is suffix.

Power Pro without a doubt.

50lb power pro = 12lb diameter, should be strong enough for anything you use it for

I use 40lb suffix 832 on a core 50 for pitchin.  I think the smaller reel is perfect for this application.

I did pick up a 600 yd spool of suffix siege for 1.98 at BPS 8 pd clear. Not my fave but at that price I will use it... I think?

You don't need to fill your spool up with braid. Fill it half full with equivalent size mono and the rest with braid.

Mono backing so that you don't use more of your costly braid than you need to. A popular method to know how much braid to put on is to fill your spool with the same diameter mono (not # test rating) as your braid, put the heaviest best casting lure on the end of your line that you think that you will cast, make the longest cast that you can make, and then pull an equal amount of mono off of your spool, and then fill with braid. Basically the amount of mono that you are pulling off of your reel is your longest cast X2.

When I asked a local Tournament angler who also happens to work at my favorite local shop, what was a good reel to flip and pitch with?  He pointed out to me the Curado 50E, I was like really?  (I was just starting to get into bass fishing then)  I thought it was for finesse only.  He said that it is just a myth and the reels could handle heavy cover to finesse techniques easily.  I took his advice and spooled up with 50lb braid.  I never had an issue pulling any fish out of cover with it, I also think another advantage is the size of the reel.  It seemed easier to pitch because of the size.  I don't use my 50s though anymore for my flip/pitch reel.  Not because I don't think it can handle it, but I like it more to handle my weightless/lighter baits.

Yes that's a very fair price for a 100yd spool so I guess with a good mono backing that should be plenty I would think. Thanks for the tip

There is a big selection of Power Pro on overstockbait . I believe today $25.00 or more orders are free shipping. Might be able to save a buck or two there if you prefer to online shop.
