Huge Bass Pic

Featured Replies

i got this photo from facebook, supposedly they were caught in Sinaloa, Mexico, around 1970... they say these bass weighted 12 kilograms (about 25 lbs) as they look in the picture, so alive they would be maybe 2 or 3 pounds more...

what do you think??

Big for sure.  25?  I wouldn't thinks so.  The fish have been gutted.  There are cuts directly behind the gills that IMO make the fish seem longer. Just my 2 cents.

25 or not makes my 5lb bass look like bait

Hes holding the fish by the mouth, the top of the top of the mouth definitely looks like a bass and the dorsal fin and tails look legit to me also.

What other kind of fish would it be?

Have ever seen a LMB with a forked tail? You can't identify these fish by looking at their backs, they could be snook for example.

FLMB did not exist in Mexico back in the early 70's. the bass lake in those days was Gerrero and 12 lb LMB were as big as they got back then, even in gill nets.

Tom

They dont look like LMB, Neither fish has any markings that a LMB would have, the tails are forked, the bodies are long & streamlined, and any LMB of that size would have much bigger eyes. Both really nice fish, maybe snook...

I would have to agree.  They don't look like LMB to me.

x5 or whatever we're up to.

Whatever they were, I'm sure they were great fish tacos.

Edit:  I fixed the color on the image to what would be more accurate. Even the skin color would appear to not be right. I've never caught Mexico bass, but I've seen enough pictures.

I'm with the "not sure they're bass" votes. just don't look right to my eye.

if they were bass, they would long be dead by now anyways...

i agree, the forked tail is what makes me almost certain they arent bass. the bodies look like catfish to me but the head doesnt look like a catfish. could be anything...

I've determined them to be a gilled chupacabra.

Win.

That right there is funny. Kids don't swim in the water..

My first thought was they were not Largemouth bass as well.

Black Sea Bass ?

Without knowing how tall any of those men are -- and there are no other viable measurement reference points in that picture -- I'd say it's pretty dangerous to assume anything about the measures of those fish.

Definitely not of the Micropterus Genus.  If I had to venture a guess I'd say it's a saltwater species.  They ALMOST look like they could be cobia, if the gills weren't shredded out.  The tail is right, and the dorsal location and coloration is accurate.  Wish there were a better shot of the head.

I don't believe that is a LMB the pointed upper jaw it's not a green trout! I don't know what they are !
