I've been looking recently for older bass lures that are used in Ontario Canada. I came across the Worden's Helin Flatfish lure that I think was designed in the 30's or 40's. But it seems like it was made to catch trout, musky & pike back then & now used to catch walleyes. Anybody know much about this lure? And is it fished like you'd fish a spoon?

I grew up fishing that lure, it caught everything.  If memory serves me correct it was just a cast and slow to moderate retrieve.  I did see them offered for sale in Cabela's catalogue from a couple of years ago.

The slower the retrieve the better. Try the larger sizes in chrome or gold.

Like many of the older lures the new ones are not as good. Might shop eBay for some originals.

I have an old original flatfish lure and I can remember one day that it was the only thing I caught a bass on. Still throw it once in awhile.

Absolutely....but I'm not so sure you'll find them in their actual store. You're probably better off going online in order to get the sizes & colors you want.

Not at all. You can cast these usually with spinning gear and the bigger ones will work with a good casting reel.

Some had the front hooks on outriggers that were prone to hang ups on the line. These were better trolled. They were pretty effective cast or trolled.

tholmes...thanks for the heads up on the Cabela's sale. I need one more piece of info before ordering. Now before & after my trip to Canada, I fish both Lake Geneva(clear water) and Delavan Lake(stained w/heavy weeds). What size (say from Cabela's) would you order if you're targeting smallies and/or largemouth? The sizes they stock are 1 1/2" to 5 1/2". Thanks guys.

Yes that does say F7. Try to get wood if you can.
