Adding split rings

Featured Replies

What lures do you add split rings to?

I have always been annoyed that the original rapalas dont have split rings at the line tie, and I have never like the "rapala" knot so I added split rings. I also added some to my rapala skitterpops, skitter walks, sammys, and chug bugs. I think it will help the side to side walking action of some of these baits. What do you guys think?

That's funny, I actually remove the split rings from all of my cranks as soon as I take them out of the package. I use Norman Speed Clips, so the split ring is completely unnecessary.

I use a lure as it comes from the manufacturer, I don't add or remove split rings.  I use just about all the time loopknot.

I sometimes remove split rings & just use a simple cross lok snap. Never have issues with line caught in the split of the ring & the action is better.

The only place I really add split rings is on Spooks to the hooks.  I don't like how the stock Spooks hooks don't move free and feel it allows the fish to throw the bait easier.

For hardbaits I use a crosslock snap so a split ring is not needed.  However, on cup faced topwater baits like a Pop R, I will add a split ring if they don't come with one just so it's easier to hook up.
