I was watching some youtube clips and the guy mentioned that older big bass will spit the bait quicker.  How on earth does anyone know that?  Did they see it?  If they do spit it quickly, you don't catch them, so how do you know it was a big bass?

They might be able to spit the bait faster because they can exert more force when they blow out a bait, but there's no way they always spit the bait out faster. I've had some big fish eat a bait and just sit there for several seconds while I'm weighing my bait and trying to decide if it's a fish or not. 

Maybe, if we assume an older bass has been caught more it seems reasonable that it's a possibility that they reject a lure quicker through the experience of having a jig blow through the roof of their mouth.

Simple physics; big bass have big mouths and eject lures easily without you knowing it. Smaller bass tend to strike a lure that doesn't fit inside their smaller mouth and run off with the lure so other bass can't steal it from them. Very easy to detect a strike when the bass moves the lure,difficult when there isn't any movement.

Notice "Big" not "Old"!

I was assuming the older a fish is, the bigger it is than others in the same body of water.  I see what you mean by "big" not "old"  

 

If this is indeed true, than today on the lake, that is why I only caught 3 keepers all day   The others must have all been monsters! (or perch)
