what a waste of line, there is no need to change mono once a week. someone must've brainwashed you into that...

Several factors come into play regarding the need to replace line.

When routinely fishing water void of structure and/or cover, ones line usually experiences significantly less trauma than when angling is areas with rock bottoms, wood, weeds as well as man made cover.

This fact is often over looked by the casual weekend angler but is almost always addressed directly by the purist and certainly all tournament anglers; at least the ones serious about the competition.

Red Earth your position on frugality as it relates to your particular angling experiences has been well documented.  If I were you, I'd check my line.  The bigger fish have a way of showing us exactly where the weakest points in our tackle systems are.

I like Suffix Seige, Pline PF, and Big Game in larger lb tests. Hard to beat Trilene XL in 4 lb test for micro fishing.

Big game and suffix

Berkley XL , XT & Big Game. Never had any problems with it through the years. If it's loaded right, you should not have problems with line twist or wind knots.

Suffix Siege and Sunline Super Natural are in the lead!

My lakes are pretty weedy and the spinnerbaits will be spending lots of time travelling along the edges of the weedbeds. Is Sunline Super Natural tough enough to cut through the weeds when needed? I presume that Siege will be just fine in that environment.

Berkley big game can not be beat as far as mono goes IMO.

I know i put many many many many many many many fish in the boat over the years on berkely big game...havnt fished it in a few years since i went all flouro....may to have rig a reel or two with some big game again this year

Surprised there aren't more votes for P line.

8# P-line was the first mono I used on my first baitcaster back in '09.  I liked its color and how easy it was to see.  As I remember, it handled well but I had a couple unexpected break offs.  Came across one while pulling off line to clear an over-run.  I suppose it could have been caused by a previous backlash, but I don't have that problem with any of the other monos I use.  Let's just say that a backlash or two still occurs on occasion.  :sad78:
