Let's Talk Ducketts.

Featured Replies

He does but I bet eventually he goes the way Bill and Hank did. A fishing show and sponsorships. He has a big part in the Profound Outdoor line of baits and website.

Thanks, I didn't know he even still did

I wouldn't fish with much less buy anything duckett has his name on. I'd rather put Obama stickers on my truck jeep and boat.

Most people who bash something have never actually used that something. This is the internet after all. I am sure I would think a lot of guys here are married to ugly chicks, but since I don't know th

someone pm, I want to know what duckett did. though I read the new BM review on Dean Rohjas praising the duckett rod, ironically the day before I was on youtube watching him push his quantum specialty rod swearing on quantum, I though that was funny a bit

I sent Dean Rojas a message on facebook asking about frog rods, not expecting an answer back, but he did send me a message and said next month to expect a Dean Rojas Signature Rod coming out from Duckett Rods

They will probably just take the specs from his quantum rods and duplicate it. The key is in the action and power, not sensitivity.

His switch was so quick, he was still using Exo reels in the classic lol. The color scheme matches the ducketts so I assume most people thought he was using the next duckett reels

IF I didnt love my dobyns so much, I would probably use ducketts.

It didnt happen, I tried a spinnerbait rod and hated it.

My knocks on duckett rods:

1. did not balance as well as my current rods.... they were lighter than my current rods, but were also tip heavy IMO.

2. fishes weaker than the blank says

3. tip had too much whip

4. split grips (they have since change to include full cork)

5. not enough options in powers and lenghts that I like

6. not a fan of Boyd Duckett's attitude, or at least how I percieve his attitude.

7. have heard/seen breakage issues

those are my opinions, so take it for what they are worth.... but they seem to line up with other honest opinions out there.

haha Dean, didn't help you with rods, he just sent you a plug for his new rod, his old quantum rod was 7' MHXF his duckett is 7'2in and is MHXF, ironically the later is what I use and love it. not to go to OT but it is all money, if you truely love a rod and support why change over money. I believe his the only quantum user that has changed in a while. didn't we see this before when skeets rods started making there own reels.

He might have been approached by Duckett.  When I think of Quantum, it's VanDam that pops in my head.  That is a big shadow to be in.  We'll never know what kind of deal Dean received.  I want to work the same or less and make more money.  He isn't any different.

I wasnt saying it to say that he helped me with rods, but to explain why he was supporting Duckett so much.  I dont think I will get the Duckett Rod because I havent used any and I will stick to what I know.

What is so funny about it???? This happens in sports all the time. Golfers might swear by Titleist and then they switch to Nike. It doesn't mean they no longer like Titleist, it simply means they got a better deal (more money probably) from Nike. You do realize that these people make a majority of their living off of endorsements and sponsorships don't you? Therefore, they are going to do what is in their best interest. Nothing new really.

money aside, and I know it is there job, but guess I am a different person. I wont change my opinion if I truly believe in something. Seems your getting pissy over it. just my opinion man. Sorry if my humor is different from yours but it was funny watched the vid then ironically my BM comes next day

That is ironic that it came the next day. I dont know what I am going to do about my Frog rod yet.  All rod brands have good and bad, not sure what I think about Duckett. Have never used one.

Not getting pissy at all. Just have a hunch that you don't have an understanding of why people change to different gear. I assume you are young and haven't actually had to make an automobile payment, mortgage, raise kids, etc. etc. etc. So it's not money aside, it is how they make a living. They are going to change if it will make their life better. Of course you won't change your opinion, no one is paying you to.

By now you all should know that if a pro mentions a brand or product by name, there's an extremely high chance that the producer of said product has their logo on the pro's jersey, and the pro is being paid to say those things.

When listening to a pro's advice, you have to filter out the marketing and get the general message out of it. When the pro says "In these conditions, I throw the red eye shad on my high speed Lew's reel", you have to filter it out and understand that you should be burning a lipless crank.

There's usually good advice in what the pros say, you just have to peel back the layers of marketing and product placement to find it.

haha, i wont even go there, I was truly raised different from you sir, i wont even start with the money thing or my age. I don't wanna get banned from this great site.    i understand it is all a money game,  but I will say again I wasnt raised to take the higher buck than leave. PERIOD. you can whine all you want saying I dont  know how to make a living..

buzzfrog, you are taking his comments the wrong way.  Somehow the deal is better with Duckett.  The pro is going to back who writes his checks or who sponsors him.  Maybe Quantum dumped Dean.  We don't know the circumstances.  Dean is trying to make a living.  He's been in the game a long time and he knows how it works.  We unfortunately don't.

Thanks. I am really not trying to start an argument. Just saying that most people do what is best for them and their career.

Sorry to blow, I know we will never know, but this the second time I have got the you must be young speech, just grinds my d**n gears when I hear it,, sorry

Also, let me give you a little tidbit of my world.

I decided not to go to school or get any tech training.  I was lucky enough to fall into a job that after 10 years, I topped out at a decent wage at 31.  I started at 8.76 an hour in 97'.   That isn't much with a kid.  If I wanted to have anything worth a crap, I had to work for it.  So, I mowed lawns.  I worked for my parents in the evenings being a janitor. I worked security at concerts and big outdoor events.  I had no time to myself. As the years went along, the more I made at my steady job, the less I had to work the other ones.  After topping out I decided to get some tech training.  I wound up with getting a 35% increase in pay once upgraded...........

Now the reason I told that story.  These guys come up through the ranks.  Basically doing what I did but they're fishing.  I make about the same as I did 10 years ago with all those jobs.  Now I work 8 hours instead of some 20 hours a day like I used to do.  The seasoned pros have more time on their hands for other things because they paid their dues.  I know I've paid mine.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

I was typing the above when you replied.  I meant no offense.

actually in golf what happens is said pro hits the NIKE but still gets paid by Titleist, because he keeps a Titleist headcover on it.

like the ole "Talyor Made: the tours most used driver" it is false.... talyor made does however have the most headcovers out there, lol.

classic example is the late Payne Stewart. he was heavily sponsored by top flight, but if you ever looked in his bag you would have seen Mizuno sticks, but Payne wore the hat, shirt, carried the bag, headcovers ect ect of top flight. Why? because Mizuno didnt pay people to use their stuff, most of the pros at the time (late 80s through the 90s) were ALL hitting mizuno irons, because they were the best . even Tigger.

so it all boils down to use what you like and how you like it...... the pros do it for the money, except for maybe Amart, I really believe he loves his stuff and would change because he TRULY liked it better.
