I've been bank fishing local residential and golf course ponds around Boca Raton, but things are winding down, it seems, as we're getting into July. I don't know where the LMB go in the summer -- all the places I fish are just a few feet deep anyway, so unless they migrate somewhere else they are in that shallow, murky water somewhere.  Last week I go over to the most local of local ponds, a half mile from home, a featureless pond between two nursing homes, and adjacent to a small road.  But there is submerged weed along the shore that hold 2 to 4 lb bass at the outer edge that I can usually entice with Zoom toads, EZ swimmers or Senkos. Anyway, I'm the only one I've ever seen fishing there, which is in my favor. This may have something to do with the No Trespassing sign over by the nursing home. So, I'm fishing the bank around 8pm and so far only land one fish, no bigger than my EZ Swimmer.  A guard pulls up on a golf cart and informs me the entire lake is private property and I absolutely cannot fish there. I am very bummed. After asking politely, he allows me to fish the bank on the way back to my car. Two casts later my phone rings and it's my wife, who I better answer right away. So I let the EZ sink just beyond the weeds while I explain I'll be home in five minutes. When I then go to reel in there is something huge pulling on the line which turns out to be, after a crazy struggle through the weeds and lots of adrenaline, one of the biggest bass I have ever landed, weighing 7.01 lbs on my digital scale, the screen on it probably reflecting my ****-eating grin.  So what if I can never fish there again?  I've already caught the biggest lunker in that pond. I get home late and my wife doesnt care that I caught a great fish.  The next day just for the hell of it I look up the property lines on a government web site. It turns out the entire shoreline is "recreational parkland" and not owned by the nursing homes after all. I can fish there whenever I want. Maybe I'll catch that big girl again some day, when she is even bigger.

Beautiful fish.... you didn't know bass can read? .... they love hanging out where people are not allowed to fish... lol... I hate it when that happens. You think you found a honey hole and you are not allowed to fish there....

How long yall been fishing there? I found out about a month ago my buddy told me. He got a nice cat and some bass.

I went once but man that is too public for me, people all around. I hear it is hot though all the folks are starting to hit it. lol

Any jax guys goin out this coming Monday or Tuesday? I live in baker county but can travel. Was thinking about fishing Ocean Pond out my way (wading). Really wanted to hit Lake Palestine but i ain't gonna wade that one (too many large gators for my liking) and my boat trailer has a busted wheel. If anybody wants to meet up or has an open seat gimme a shout!

Hit Holiday up early this morning. Decided to stay close to home when I watched the weather. Found a decent stretch of fish before a squall ran me out. Some fierce lightning and wind came up when I was down south. It was moving north in a hurry. Glad I had my rain gear handy. Water has come up significantly since I was last out there. Probably able to get back into the marshes now if you're careful.

I tell you what... when you are exposed to mother nature like that it can be scary and dangerous ....but that shot you took looked awesome!! 

Yeah it got nasty. A second one blew through the area a little while ago that I should have taken a picture of. Just some awesomely powerful weather today. Mother Nature is just so darn cool.

Today the weather has been nasty. Wave after wave of t-storms. At this rate the water level in the glades is going to be topping off just like you have seen so far. 

I get scare when I see lighting all over the place and stop fishing because Florida is considered the state with the most death cause by lighting and fishing rods attract lighting too. 

By 5:30 AM I had about 40# of fish, 1 tarpon, 1 snook and 2 little lady ladyfish in the ICW.  Walked on to the beach lighting was so bad I left and was home by 7:00 AM.

Cleared up a bit around noon so went I fished backyard pond for bass, busting bait all over the place, hadn't seen that in a while.  I don't fish senkos or lizards often but I did yesterday for change of pace, sure didn't take long.  After the first fish I was tempted to go back home and get light action rod with top water for some fun, black gnats were so overwhelming I stayed for about 5 or 6 fish and called it day.

Has been slow (well, not dead slow - but almost) at my favorite ponds in Boca -- fish are sleeping all day and even past dusk, it seems. I usually stick to soft plastics, but recently I had an urge to toss some fat golden shiners towards my uncooperative quarry -- but no tackle store nearby seems to have them. One guy -- at Jonas's Tackle in Deerfield -- said he cant get goldies because animal rights people think it's very cruel to cage them so they got a law passed. It's hard to believe. Maybe they're mixing them up with bottle nose dolphins or something. Or perhaps he was merely BS-ing me. Anyway, any of you guys know where in PB county or Broward County one can purchace (or cast net) golden shiners?

Couple 3 lbers out at Santa Fe today... not saying where. Found 81 degree water rather than the 91 degree water everywhere else. Found some fish there.

Good day in Orlando today.  Fish were hammering an A-Rig until the storm came.   

 

My buddy caught fish on pretty much everything he threw.  Poppers, Mojo, Fluke, Drop Shot

 

We caught all 2 and 3 pounders, nothing big and nothing small.

Doing Santa Fe again tomorrow. Finally found some bass out there. Lovin the Space Monkey on a 3/8. Thinking about throwing a small anaconda on a 3/8 and seeing how that does.

How's lox doing this time of year? I'm still new to having a boat and was looking for some tips for fishing there. Also what do you guys do if you see a storm rolling in fast?

Water levels should be getting up there at Lox. Will be harder to find fish. When you do though, you should be able to hit that area pretty good and have a good day.

Most of the time at Lox, I head back to the ramp if I think I'm going to get hit by a storm. Easier to wait in the truck. I have had to beach the boat once or twice and hunker down though. Not fun.

would you recommend trying the flats or sticking to the main canal?
