Tournaments - Cost Saving Tips

Recommended Posts

Every club has their "rules" or recommendations on boater/non-boater expenses.  We have hashed that out in other threads.  I'm not trying to rehash that topic but get some feedback on how you try to save money during your tournament season.   Some examples that I can come up.

1 - Commute up together.  Boater/Partner.  Try and meet up someplace central and drive up together.  Split all expenses to/from.

2 - Share a hotel room.  Generally one room could hold 2.  If cots are allowed even 3.

3 - Camp out instead of hotel.  Some events are near campsites which are much less expensive to reserve than a hotel.

any others you can think of ...

LMAO ... Sounds like that makes for a long, hung-over tournament the next morning.  :)

Bring lunch or snaks from home, instead of picking up some over priced, packaged junk food or sandwhiches from a gas station.

Simply stated, WIN. That'll offset all those expenses haha. One of the tips I've heard is to not fill you boat tanks up until you get there because hauling that weight will reduce fuel economy. Make sure tires are properly inflated. Pull the boat without a cover on if weather permits. Even the best fitting covers have a bit of a parachute effect. Otherwise, bring your own food and look around for the best deals on hotel or campground. A lot of times it's cheaper to stay a little ways away from the lake because the hotels close will generally have an inflated rate.

Don't think you need every new toy that comes on the market, or the highest priced equipment. There are a lot of good equipment for decent prices now with all of the competition. You need baits for the situations that you will encounter but that doesn't mean you need a ton of baits.

Also, take care of your gear so it last. Don't abuse it and do proper maintenance.
