Talon 10' ? 12' ?

Featured Replies

Hey guys im trying to find out if the 12' Talon is longer than the 10' and 8' models when retracted, I'm looking to buy one but I don't want it to be a problem for the guy fishing from the back. Is a Talon higher than a Power Pole when retracted?

Does anyone have one of the new Talon models, I know the previous one was bad but is the new one really better?

Thank you everyone!

I believe I heard the 12' is actually shorter than the 8' retracted. The gen 1 Talons were improved upon and the latest are a redesign. The Talon is only a couple inches taller than the motor cowl. The Power poles are taller than the talons retracted

Never had a problem fishing with a guy that had powerpoles.

Never got any complaints from the back with guys fishing around my 8' Talon.  Would love to have the 12', wouldn't bother with the 10' when the 12' is available.  I consider this thing the best money I've spent in a long time!!

Just ordered a 12" Talon. Looking forward to using it.

Let me know what the total lenght of it once instaled on your boat please! I would like to have the measure from the bracket to the top of the talon. Thank you

  1. Will do. Might be a couple of weeks though by the time I get it. If its any help, the MK site recommends setting it 4" above the hull bottom and I believe the overall length is 59.5"

Not sure if you know this already or not but the bracket is completely adjustable. That being said, as Chief 2 stated above, they recommend 4" above the bottom of the hull to help eliminate the wash from hitting it and causing spray while giving you maximum depth so it will really depend on the boat it is put on

In case you didn't know, there is a $100 rebate on the Talon. Go to the Promotions page on the MK website for the rebate requirements. http://www.minnkotamotors.com/_docs/2014-Minn-Kota-Redemption-Form-Talon.pdf

Thanks!

I decided to go with the 10', after talking with the Minn Kota rep. He told me that the new 10' is actually smaller than the previous 8' thats pretty cool! The 12' is a bit bigger, the bad part is that I need those Snadwich brackets meaning that I will need to unscrew my Merc 150 to put the brackets between the jackplate and the motor....

ill let you know how it goes!!!

If you have a buddy who has a motor lift for landscaping or garage work they work great. Thats how I did mine. Gave him a case of beer, pulled the motor, sealed everything and put it back on. Probably took 30 minutes to get it on there

Ok i'll try that, i just got the Talons and they look awesome , however i did not get the brackets yet, I will re-contact the rep and ask him if I realy need the sandwich brackets, I have a 7inch jackplate I feel like this is plenty of place to install the side mounting brackets!

Ill keep you posted!

If you have the jack plate you'll be fine with the jack plate adapter plate. No reason to pull the motor and install should literally be less than half an hour with no drilling

What jack plate do you have?

What are you all paying for the new 10'

I'm about to try and install my sandwich style brackets right now, crossing my fingers, I have to unbolt the jackplate from the transom, put the brackets between the jackplate and the transom and bolt everything back in place, I hope the motor dosent fall or anything as we ar about to use some redneck materials to lift it lol... ill let you guys know how it goes and ill upload pictures of the finished product.... if ever it gets finished haha

take care

Got it done!! The only concern I have is I feel the talon are sitting low, they recommend 4'' above bottom of boat but they are about 2'' when at their hgher position, i hope this doesnt cause any problems in the future!
